ABOUT THE HAMMERED DULCIMER

The hammered dulcimer is an ancient trapezoidal musical instrument played by striking the strings with wooden hammers.

Originating in the Middle East about 2000 years ago, English soldiers brought the instrument back to England after their failed attempt to conquer Persia during the Crusades about 1000 years ago. Dulcimers have many names in many lands: santur in the Middle East, yang q'in in China, hackbrett in Austria, zither in Germany, and cymbalom in Hungary. The name "dulcimer" is derived from Latin, meaning "sweet sound". Hammered dulcimers were popular in England during the reign of James I, when the Bible was translated into English as the King James Bible. The dulcimer was mentioned in the Book of Daniel 3:5 among other instruments "..the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music..." The dulcimer was later mechanized to become what we now know as the harpsichord which later evolved in the piano.

SORRY FOLKS.

AS THE TITLE SAYS,I HAVE BEEN DUMPING SOME OF THE BLOGS THAT I FOLLOW.THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CONTENT OF THE BLOGS,BUT A HEALTH ISSUE FOR ME. I WILL MISS THE BLOGS THAT I STOP FOLLOWING. I HAVE A TOTAL OF 243 DIFFERENT BLOGS THAT I FOLLOW AND THAT IS WAY TOO MUCH FOR ME TO HANDLE.NOT TO MENTION THAT I HAVE NOT COMMENTED ON THESE BLOGS IN QUITE A WHILE.
SO I WILL BE CUTTING DOWN ON THE BLOGS.I HAVE TO,AGAIN IT IS DUE TO MY HEALTH ISSUES.

THIS PAINS ME TO DO SO THERE ARE SO MANY BLOGS THAT I HAVE ENJOYED VISITING.
I have most of the blogs on my 3 Blog Rolls and I will visit with you that way just a few at a time.

I HOPE THAT EVERY ONE UNDERSTANDS.

Oh Mike the new look is wonderful. I have been on break for so very long but I am working my way back.

I just couldn't stop for today without visiting you. I am so glad I did.

Everyone is so correct. You are such a fantastic inspiration to us all. And as for Adam, I just now stopped and said a prayer.

Wow is this really going to be your 1000th post? Congratulations.

I had to make my post an update post today and let everyone know what and where I and my husband are in regards to...well...everything.

I hope to go forward now that this post is over and reach out as much as I possibly can!!

Big big hugs,
Jackie:-)

P.S. Speedy stole the jukebox idea from me....lol...told me he was going to and he did....so I hopped right over and grabbed his jukebox picture! But, of course, it's not really stealing...you can't steal what is given freely and in love and friendship!

G2G..Blessings Mike!
