MY HAMMERED DULCIMER

MY HAMMERED DULCIMER
There are various Hammered Dulcimer postings from YouTube of different tunes, and NO I AM NOT PLAYING ANY OF THESE TUNES.Maybe some day when I have the equipment to do so.I have included a link to my You Tube Channel.I invite you to go and watch any of my videos on the site also check out some of the different channels I subscribe to.

ABOUT THE HAMMERED DULCIMER

The hammered dulcimer is an ancient trapezoidal musical instrument played by striking the strings with wooden hammers.

Originating in the Middle East about 2000 years ago, English soldiers brought the instrument back to England after their failed attempt to conquer Persia during the Crusades about 1000 years ago. Dulcimers have many names in many lands: santur in the Middle East, yang q'in in China, hackbrett in Austria, zither in Germany, and cymbalom in Hungary. The name "dulcimer" is derived from Latin, meaning "sweet sound". Hammered dulcimers were popular in England during the reign of James I, when the Bible was translated into English as the King James Bible. The dulcimer was mentioned in the Book of Daniel 3:5 among other instruments "..the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music..." The dulcimer was later mechanized to become what we now know as the harpsichord which later evolved in the piano.

THE SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Clueless Presents the Real Story of "Auld Lang Syne!"

The following information is from the site Christmas Carols: Although not strictly a Christmas song this section would not be complete without the inclusion of the lyrics of Auld Lang Syne. The song Auld Lang Syne is traditionally sung by most of us on the stroke of midnight each New Years Eve however in Scotland, where Auld Lang Syne originates it is also sung on Burns Night, January 25th, to celebrate the life of the author and famous poet Robert Burns.

The lyrics of Auld Lang Syne actually consist of five verses and this full version of the Poem Auld Lang Syne is featured in the Christmas Poems section, complete with its history and old origins.

The words 'Auld Lang Syne' literally translates from old Scottish dialect meaning 'Old Long Ago' and is about love and friendship in times past. The lyrics in the song Auld Lang Syne referring to 'We'll take a Cup of Kindness yet' relate to a drink shared by men and women to symbolise friendship. Happy New Year!!!

It is also known as a song to drink by!!

Complete poem/lyrics for "Auld Lang Syne"
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine!
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu'd the gowans fine;
But we've wandered mony a weary fit
Sin' auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
We twa hae paidled i' the burn,
Frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
And there's a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o' thine!
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught
For auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

Goodby Rosie the Riveter.

Geraldine Hoff Doyle (July 31, 1924 — December 26, 2010) was the real-life model for the World War II era We Can Do It posters, an embodiment of the iconic World War II character Rosie the Riveter.
Geraldine Hoff was born in Inkster, Michigan. Her father Cornelious was an electrical contractor who died of pneumonia when she was 10 years old. Her mother, Augusta, was a composer stricken with scoliosis. After graduating from high school in Ann Arbor, in 1942 Geraldine found work as a metal presser in a Michigan factory. (As men started enlisting and being drafted into military service for World War II, women began to support the war effort by taking on roles, including factory work, that were formerly considered "male only.")
Because she was a cello player, Geraldine feared a hand injury from the metal pressing machines and soon left the factory. During the brief time she worked there a wire photographer took a picture of her. That image - re-imagined by graphic artist J. Howard Miller while working for the Westinghouse Company's War Production Coordinating Committee -- became the basis for the poster Miller created during a Westinghouse anti-absenteeism and anti-strike campaign.

I am adding thisdue to the nature of her passing :

Teena Marie was found dead in her Los Angeles home of an apparent grand mal seizure. She was 54 years old.

Born Mary Christine Brockert, Tenna Marie was a white woman who sang rhythm and blues. She signed with Motown in 1976 and teamed with funk legend, Rick James.

A seizure, according to the University of Michigan Health System, is an episode of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. A common seizure type is a grand mal seizure. It causes loss of consciousness, jerking or twitching of all four limbs, sometimes injury to the tongue or mouth, and sometimes urinary incontinence. Additional symptoms may include a pause in breathing and confusion and weakness following the event.

The Mayo Clinic states that grand mal seizures are sometimes caused by underlying health problems:

    * Very low levels of glucose, sodium, calcium, or magnesium
    * Traumatic head injuries
    * Using or withdrawing from drugs or alcohol
    * Brain tumors
    * Strokes
    * Certain infections such as encephalitis or meningitis
    * Injury due to a previous lack of oxygen
    * Blood vessel malformations in the brain
    * Genetic syndromes
Seizures are no fun,Thankfully I have not had a bad one in a long time.

About Celestine.

Celestine came home last night the oozing had stopped. They think the compression stockings that she was wearing had contributed to the problem they bandaged the wound and told her not to wear the stockings and that hot water on the leg from the shower she took just before putting on the stocking weakened the area. Which is just great. One Doctor say do this than a different one don't do that.

A Sunday Thought.

A Sunday Thought.

Just as we cannot hear radio waves without a radio receiver, so we cannot receive God's grace without faith, and that faith itself is a gift to us from God.

Prayers for Celestine.

Celestine's left leg near the ankle started oozing blood out the the vein that I had post about the other day. she called for advise and was told to go to the Emergency Department at Metro hospital. Please keep her in your prayers.

Silent Night

Wednesday Hero

I sat here trying to think how to start this post.  What did I want it to say?  How long did I want it to be?  I wasn't sure how to begin.  I turned on some Christmas music to help get me in the right frame of mind to write a Christmas Wednesday Hero post, but it wasn't really helping.  I mean, how do you properly thank a group of people who have given up everything in their lives to serve you and protect people all over the world with just a single post on a silly blog?  Many of these Men and Women haven't seen their friends and families in months and many won't be seeing them for many more months.  How do you thank them?  They are away from home during the time of year when everyone should be together.  How do you thank them for that?  Some of them will never see their home or loved ones again because they laid down their life for a complete stranger.  How do you thank them for that?  I guess the better question would be are we able to thank them enough?

To all those who have completed their service, the ones who are serving, the ones who have payed the ultimate sacrifice and those who may have never served but help those who have and are, Thank You and Merry Christmas.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday.  For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

I just had to put up More Strait No Chaser!

I DO HOPE THAT YOU ENJOY THIS ONE.

ABOUT STRAIGHT NO CHASER:
Straight No Chaser (SNC) is the name of two related but separate a cappella men's singing groups. The Indiana University amateur college group now known as "Indiana University's Straight No Chaser" is composed of 10 to 12 undergraduate men whose lineup changes every year. The professional group, known simply as Straight No Chaser, is composed of former members, mostly original members, of the college group. In 2006, a 1998 video of "The 12 Days of Christmas," went viral and subsequently led to a five-album record deal with Atlantic Records in 2008. The YouTube video has been viewed by more than 12 million people, including the chairman and president of Atlantic Records, Craig Kallman, who arranged the five-album recording deal. [1]
HISTORY
The collegiate group was formed in 1996 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Together the 10 students -- Dan Ponce (the founder), Randy Stine, Charlie Mechling, Steve Morgan, Jerome Collins, Dave Roberts, Walter Chase, Mike Itkoff, Patrick Hachey, and Kevin Caroll, became Straight No Chaser. Their name was inspired by the title track of Thelonious Monk's 1967 album, Straight No Chaser, and is a conscious evocation of the popular American slang phrase often employed in the requesting of a drink.

SNC’s debut was at a 36-hour dance marathon.[2] The original members performed at Chicago's Wrigley Field, Comiskey Park and Navy Pier, opened for Lou Rawls and even toured the country, playing such venues as Carnegie Hall.[1] The original 10 remained together from 1996 until 1999 when new students were selected to replace the graduating members. As of 2010, approximately 60 students have been members of Straight No Chaser.[2]

A Sunday Thought.

I recieved this as an email and I just had to share it as my Sundat Thought for this week.

A Nativity Scene was erected in a church yard.
During the night the folks came across this scene.
An abandoned dog was looking for a comfortable, protected place to sleep. He chose baby Jesus as his comfort. No one had the heart to send him away so he was there all night.

We should all have the good sense of this dog and curl up in Jesus' lap from time to time.

This is too sweet not to share.

No one mentioned that the

dog breed is a German Shepherd

time for a rant.

first of all let me say killing a cop is wrong.that being said,go HERE to read this posting. The weasel got the death penalty, but every one knows that the "alleged" perpetrator has a lot of rights.,and therefor many appeals.where were the champions for said rights when the victim was losing their life to this perpetrator ????
Bottom line is that this scumbag needs to forfeit his own life for the life of the COP that he killed.

Post Christmas Blues by Clueless

Merry day after christmas

Holiday let down the day after Christmas?

5 Tips to Head Off the Blues

1. Compile memories

With all of the pictures you have collected just hanging out on your camera, don't wait to get them on your computer or into a scrapbook. Looking at the 'memories' of the fun you had over the holidays will give you a spark of cheer into January. Purchase some scrapbooks from the after holiday sales and set to work. Date and caption the pictures, add little holiday foam shapes, and cut out crazy borders. You will be amazed at your sense of accomplishment, and your family will enjoy looking at it when it is all done. Who can be depressed with a project this fun?

2. Leave something up

It's not a sin to leave some decorations up after Christmas (although, if it starts to approach June, you should probably reconsider). But leaving up a wreath on your door, the garland on your banister, or some lights will give you a warmth inside even post-holidays. Take your decorations down slowly instead of all at once. This will make the task easier, and make you less prone to depression. Stripping your house on New Year's is the worst mistake you can make when trying to beat post-holiday depression; it makes you very aware of the 'end' and tires you out before the day is through. So don't worry about taking it all down just yet. Take your time, and leave some key decorations up for a little while.

3. Keep busy

The best thing you can do for yourself is to do something for others. Don't dwell on disappointments that may have occurred. Just start anew. Look around yourself and see what condition those around you are in. If you see that your 65-year-old neighbor is having trouble removing snow, go out and help. Invite your friends over for hot chocolate and conversation. Don't keep to yourself or you'll find the dark shadows of depression creeping up on you.

4. Exercise

If you've gained weight over the holidays, than there is no time like the present to get it off. It's easy to get depressed thinking about how much food you stuffed yourself with, but don't let it get to you. Start an exercise routine and follow through. Even if you haven't gained weight, you will feel energized and better able to face new challenges. Exercise lightens the load in more ways than one. So don't excuse yourself, just get exercising.

5. Time out

The holidays take up so much time, that you've probably neglected yourself. Beat the post-holiday depression by taking the time to do something for yourself. Go shopping for a few new items of clothing with your holiday gift money, or use those holiday gift cards that you've stacked up. But if you don't want to face the malls anymore, than just draw a hot bath, and relax with a good book. If you are feeling burnt, than don't just keep going. Take some time out and kiss those post-holiday blues goodbye!

What do you do to cope with post holiday blues?

Sadly there's been another casualty that needs to be added. On December 2 3/5 Darkhorse lost Marine Sgt. Matthew T. Abbate. If you could add his name to the post. Hopefully this will be the last one, not only before Wednesday but for good. They've been through enough.

Rest in Peace.

Elizabeth Anania Edwards (born Mary Elizabeth Anania) (July 3, 1949 - December 7, 2010[2]) was an attorney and a best-selling author; she was separated from her husband John Edwards, the former U.S. Senator from North Carolina who was the 2004 United States Democratic vice-presidential nominee.
Let's keep her family in our prayers.

The Blogger's Prayer

Lord help me to learn to spell without spellcheck, manage to visit all that visit me, and post regularly - all in 5 minutes a day, so that I can clean house and take care of my family. Help me to not look at every occurrence in my life as a blog post, and to quit taking pictures of weird things to share as well. Please Lord, help me to stop talking about my blog friends as though they are next door neighbors or someone I have known all of my life. And help me dear Lord, to think of something witty and wise to post tomorrow.
