The Blogger's Prayer

Lord help me to learn to spell without spellcheck, manage to visit all that visit me, and post regularly - all in 5 minutes a day, so that I can clean house and take care of my family. Help me to not look at every occurrence in my life as a blog post, and to quit taking pictures of weird things to share as well. Please Lord, help me to stop talking about my blog friends as though they are next door neighbors or someone I have known all of my life. And help me dear Lord, to think of something witty and wise to post tomorrow.

Wednesday's Hero

This Weeks Post Was Suggested By Kathi

Russell E. Tucker Sr.
Russell E. Tucker Sr.
72 years old from Buffalo, New York
1899? - 1971
U.S. Marines

Seven years shy of a century later, Russell E. Tucker Sr. got his due Friday at a ceremony where he was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he suffered as a Marine in World War I.

In June of 1918 Russel Tucker and his fellow Marines marched into German machine gun fire in Belleau, France and drove the enemy back.  Russel, then only 19-years-old, was shot in the temple and in the right hand losing part of his knuckle on his index finger.  But because there was no such award as the Purple Hart at the time it's taken almost a century for it to finally be awarded.

You can read more about Russel Tucker, Sr. here

Wednesday's Hero

This Weeks Post Was Suggested By Michael Golch

RMC Thomas James Reeves
RMC Thomas James Reeves
46 years old from Thomaston, Connecticut
December 9, 1895 - December 7, 1941
U.S. Navy

On December 7, 1941, Radioman, Chief Thomas Reeves was aboard the U.S.S. California.  During the attack he helped load the anti-aircraft ammo, by hand, until he was overcome by smoke and fire.  For his actions that day RMC Reeves was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

His citation reads:  "For distinguished conduct in the line of his profession, extraordinary courage and disregard of his own safety during the attack on the Fleet in Pearl Harbor, by Japanese forces on 7 December 1941. After the mechanized ammunition hoists were put out of action in the U.S.S. California, Reeves, on his own initiative, in a burning passageway, assisted in the maintenance of an ammunition supply by hand to the antiaircraft guns until he was overcome by smoke and fire, which resulted in his death."  In 1943 the destroyer escort USS Reeves was named in his honor.

some speaker cabinates had Mid-range and full-range speakers.

SCREW IT.

The ships that never were.

As the title says there was supposed to be new Battle Ship Class Last Built Battle Ship class was the USS IOWA the lead ship of the IOWA CLASS. That being said, here are the battleships that never were:

USS Montana (BB-67)

Montana was planned to be the lead ship of the class. She was the third ship to be named in honor of the 41st state, and was assigned to the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Both the earlier battleship, BB-51, and BB-67 were canceled, so Montana is the only one of the US states never to have had a battleship with a "BB" hull classification completed in its honor.

USS Ohio (BB-68)

Ohio was to be the second Montana-class battleship. She was to be named in honor of the 17th state, and was assigned to the Philadelphia Navy Yard for construction. Ohio would have been the fourth ship to bear that name had she been commissioned.

USS Maine (BB-69)

Maine was to be the third Montana-class battleship. She was to be named in honor of the 23rd state, and was assigned to the New York Navy Yard. Maine would have been the third ship to bear that name had she been commissioned

USS New Hampshire (BB-70)

New Hampshire was to be the fourth Montana-class battleship, and was to be named in honor of the ninth state. She was assigned to the New York Navy Yard, and would have been the third ship to bear that name had she been commissioned

USS Louisiana (BB-71)

Louisiana was to be the fifth and final Montana-class battleship. She was to be named in honor of the 18th state and assigned to the Norfolk Navy Yard, Portsmouth, Virginia. Louisiana would have been the third ship to bear that name had she been commissioned by hull number, Louisiana was the last American battleship authorized for construction

A Poem Worth Reading

I got this as an email, and i wanted to share it.

    A Poem Worth Reading

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
    Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
    In his exploits with his buddies;
    They were heroes, every one.

And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors
    His tales became a joke,
    All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For ol' Joe has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
    For a Soldier died today.

He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.
    For he lived an ordinary,
    Very quiet sort of life.

He held a job and raised a family,
    Going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
    'Tho a Soldier died today.

    When politicians leave this earth,
    Their bodies lie in state,
    While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young
But the passing of a Soldier
    Goes unnoticed, and unsung.

    Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
    And cons his fellow man?

    Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
    And offers up his life?

    The politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
    Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.

    While the ordinary Soldier,
    Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
    And perhaps a pension, small.

    It is not the politicians
    With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
    That our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger,
    With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
    With his ever waffling stand?

Or would you want a Soldier—
His home, his country, his kin,
    Just a common Soldier,
Who would fight until the end.

He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his likes again.
For when countries are in conflict,
    We find the Soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles
    That the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days.

    Perhaps just a simple headline
In the paper that might say:
    "OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
    A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

Oh well stuff happens.

I will have to delete this blog from my Entrecard favorite lists unless the owner can fix it. because it has been hijacked and that my friends just sucks.
this is their entrecard badge.but sadly the link does not got to the blog.instead the site looks like this:
so I huess I'll be adding soneone else's entrecard blog.
