I just learned Of the Passing of my Facebook and Blogging Friend Nicholas Temple of Nick's Bytes 

The Rev. Nicholas Lawrence Temple (Rev. Nick) of Louisville, Kentucky died peacefully at the Baptist Health Palliative Care Unit on Saturday, June 4 at the age of 70.

Nick was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on February 14, 1946. He attended Southern High School. He was in the Reserve Officer Training Corps and a member of the Pershing Rifles at the University of Kentucky, and graduated from there in 1969.

He served as a Lieutenant in the US Army in Schweinfurt, Germany from 1970-1972, then as a social worker for the Commonwealth of Kentucky until 1983, when he began his studies at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. After earning his M.Div. at Eden Seminary he wasordained and installed as the pastor of St. John UCC in Cannelton, Indiana where he served from 1987-1998.
He served as the pastor of Christ Evangelical UCC in Louisville from 1998 until his retirement.
Nick is survived by his two sons, Nicholas Temple III, Robert Temple II (Kimberly), his sister Deborah Temple Bennett (Butch) and nieces Kelsey and Kate Bennett. He is also survived by his former wife, Janel Temple and six grandchildren: Lee, Brandy, Savannah, Kayla, Story and Remy Temple.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Hertle Temple, his father, Robert Temple and a host of aunts and uncles.
A service celebrating Nick's life will be held at Faith United Church of Christ, 14001 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40245, at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 8.
The family will receive visitors at the church prior to the service, from 1-3 pm, and a reception will follow the service, also at the church. All are welcome to attend.
There will be cremation and private interment.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in his memory go to Faith United Church of Christ or Hosparus of Louisville.

Leslie William Nielsen, OC (February 11, 1926 – November 28, 2010)[1] was a Canadian-American actor and comedian. Although his acting career crosses a variety of genres in both television and films, Nielsen achieved his greatest successes in the comedy films Airplane! and The Naked Gun. His portrayal of serious characters seemingly oblivious to (and complicit in) their absurd surroundings gave him a reputation as a comedian.[2]
Nielsen's lead roles in the films Forbidden Planet and The Poseidon Adventure came long before he considered a turn to comedy. His deadpan delivery as a doctor in 1980's Airplane! marked a turning point in Nielsen's career, one that would make him, in the words of film critic Roger Ebert, "the Olivier of spoofs."[3] Nielsen appeared in over 100 films and 1,500 television programs over the span of his career, portraying over 220 characters.[4

John William Finn (July 23, 1909 – May 27, 2010) was a United States Navy officer who received the United States military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor in World War II. As a chief aviation ordnanceman stationed at Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay, he earned the medal by manning a machine gun from an exposed position throughout the attack, despite being repeatedly wounded. He continued to serve in the Navy until his 1956 retirement, eventually rising to the commissioned officer rank of lieutenant. In his later years he made many appearances at events celebrating veterans. At the time of his death, Finn was the oldest living Medal of Honor recipient and the last living recipient from the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Prayers for a Fallen Police Officer. END OF WATCH 3/14/2010

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS -- Thirty-year-old Cleveland Heights police officer Thomas F. Patton collapsed and died while chasing a suspect Saturday night.

A spokesman with the Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office said that Patton died of a "cardiac incident".

"We lost a big piece of Cleveland Heights when Officer Patton went down," said Cleveland Heights mayor Ed Kelley. "He's just the kind of guy you would like to be with or loved to have as you next door neighbor.

"He certainly loved protecting the city," Kelley said. "I mean he gave his life. He's a hero."

Around 8:15 p.m. Saturday, an off-duty Cleveland Heights police officer working security at the Marc's Drugstore on Coventry Road tried to stop a man from harrassing two female employees at the store.

According to police, the suspect, Malcolm L. Bryant, 21, told the two workers, ages 17 and 20, that he wanted to take them to a party where there would be drinking and illegal drugs.

The off-duty officer told Bryant that the two women wanted to be left alone. Police said Bryant then verbally threatened the woman and spit in the officer's face.

The officer then pursued Bryant by foot and called for more assistance.

Several Cleveland Heights police officers responded to the call, including Patton, a nine-year veteran with the department.

Patton and two officers chased Bryant on foot through back yards and wooded areas near the store.

At Glenmont and Mayfield Road, Officer Patton stopped momentarily, and rested his hands on his knees.

Officer Patton then began to run again, and collapsed.

He was taken to Huron Hospital, where a rescue squad and medical personnel were unable to revive him.

"He was engaged to be married," said Kelley. "He was looking for a house here in Cleveland Heights to move and start his family. It's a great loss."

Patton is the son of state Sen. Tom Patton, of Strongsville.

Bryant was apprehended by other Cleveland Heights police officers and faces various felony charges.

Patton is the second Cleveland Heights police officer to die in the line of duty in the past three years.

In May, 2007, officer Jason West was shot and killed when he responded to a fight on Altamont Avenue. The gunman who shot West is serving a life sentence.
