The Blogger's Prayer

Lord help me to learn to spell without spellcheck, manage to visit all that visit me, and post regularly - all in 5 minutes a day, so that I can clean house and take care of my family. Help me to not look at every occurrence in my life as a blog post, and to quit taking pictures of weird things to share as well. Please Lord, help me to stop talking about my blog friends as though they are next door neighbors or someone I have known all of my life. And help me dear Lord, to think of something witty and wise to post tomorrow.

Here is how it works: Laugh and Link Up!

I have 2 different one for this weeks Silly Sunday,Since Sandee said that she was ending Silly Sunday.

Church Signs

The following are actual signs found on church property.

"No God-No Peace. Know God-Know Peace."

"Free Trip to heaven. Details Inside!"

"Try our Sundays. They are better than Baskin-Robbins."

"Searching for a new look? Have your faith lifted here!"

An ad for St. Joseph's Episcopal Church has a picture of two hands holding stone tablets on which the Ten Commandments are inscribed and a headline that reads, "For fast, fast, fast relief, take two tablets."

When the restaurant next to the Lutheran Church put out a big sign with red letters that said, "Open Sundays," the church reciprocated with its own message: "We are open on Sundays, too."

"Have trouble sleeping? We have sermons-come hear one!"

A singing group called "The Resurrection" was scheduled to sing at a church. When a big snowstorm postponed the performance, the pastor fixed the outside sign to read, "The Resurrection is postponed."

"People are like tea bags-you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are."

"God so loved the world that He did not send a committee."

"Come in and pray today. Beat the Christmas rush!"

"When down in the mouth, remember Jonah. He came out alright."

"Sign broken. Message inside this Sunday."

The two thousand member Baptist church was filled to overflowing capacity one Sunday morning.
The preacher was ready to start the sermon when two men, dressed in long black coats and black hats entered thru the rear of the church.

One of the two men walked to the middle of the church while the other stayed at the back of the church. They both then reached under their coats and withdrew automatic weapons.

The one in the middle announced, "Everyone willing to take a bullet for Jesus stay in your seats!"

Naturally, the pews emptied, followed by the choir. The deacons ran out the door, followed by the choir director and the assistant pastor.

After a few moments, there were about twenty people left sitting in the church. The preacher was holding steady in the pulpit.

The men put their weapons away and said, gently, to the preacher, "All right, pastor, the hypocrites are gone now. You may begin the service."

 Schocking Calls

It's that time of year again, when we spend many Sundays watching our home town heroes of the gridiron play.

One thing about going to the games that is a mixed blessing is that your phone may or may not get any reception while in the stadium.  Trying to keep up with all the kids who come with us, without being able to call them, can be challenging.

As i tried to call Red-headed Alec yesterday and couldn't get an answer, i was thinking about how we never had telephones to worry about when i first started going to games, because they were all back home attached to the wall.

Then i started thinking about other uses of telephones, and it reminded me of Boudreaux.

There are some things that are illegal everywhere except in extreme south Louisiana, where Boudreaux will tell you that it is legal there anyway when you are hungry enough.  This includes the old use of the cranking device from old-style telephones to generate electricity through wires dropped in the water.  This would shock the fish, which would float to the surface to be netted for consumption or sale.

After one such "fish shocking" expedition, Boudreaux was selling some of the fish he had caught to a local restaurant.  The buyer, suspicious about it, asked him, "Did you "telephone" these fish?

An' Boudreaux, he say, "Mais, no!  I jes' drop dem a line!"

Angelic Little Boy:

A delightful angelic little boy was waiting for his mother outside the ladies room of the gas station. As he stood there, he was approached by a man who asked, "Sonny, can you tell me where the Post Office is?"

The little boy replied, "Sure! Just go straight down this street two blocks and turn to your right. It's on the left."

The man thanked the boy kindly, complimented him on how bright he was and said, "I'm the new pastor in town. If you and your mommy come to church on Sunday, I'll show you how to get to Heaven."

The little boy replied with a chuckle; "You're kidding me, right? You can't even find the Post

 Office."

Since Yesterday was Veterans Day I thought I would use an Oldie but a Goodie!!

 Military Time

On some air bases the Air Force is on one side of the field and civilian aircraft use the other side of the field, with the control tower in the middle. One day the tower received a call from an aircraft asking, "What time is it?"

The tower responded, "Who is calling?”

The aircraft replied, ”What difference does it make?"

The tower replied,  "It makes a lot of difference.

If it is an American Airlines flight, it is 3 o’clock.
If it is an Air Force plane, it is 1500 hours.
If it is a Navy aircraft, it is 6 bells.
If it is an Army aircraft, the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 3.
If it is a Marine Corps aircraft, it’s Thursday afternoon."

Intelligence:

Two men were digging a ditch on a very hot day. One said to the other, ”Why are we down in this hole digging a ditch when our boss is standing up there in the shade of a tree?”

”I don’t know,” responded the other. ”I’ll ask him.” So he climbed out of the hole and went to his boss. ”Why are we digging in the hot sun and you’re standing in the shade?”

”Intelligence,” the boss said.

”What do you mean, intelligence’?”

The boss said, ”Well, I’ll show you. I’ll put my hand on this tree and I want you to hit it with your fist as hard as you can.”

The ditch digger took a mighty swing and tried to hit the boss’ hand.

The boss removed his hand and the ditch digger hit the tree. The boss said, ”That’s intelligence!”

The ditch digger went back to his hole.

His friend asked, ”What did he say?”

”He said we are down here because of intelligence.”

”What’s intelligence?” said the friend.

The ditch digger put his hand on his face and said, ”Take your shovel and hit my hand.”

Two Cops Watching A Woman

When I walked toward the garage I noticed these two cops watching a woman who was smoking while fueling up. I saw her and thought, “what an idiot… with the cops right there too.” But anyway, I went in and got my milk.

As I was checking out I hear someone screaming. As I was walking outside I saw the woman’s arm was on fire! She was swinging her arm & running around going crazy!

I ran on outside and the cops had put her on the ground and were putting the fire out. When they put handcuffs on her and were about to put her in the police car, I was thinking she shouldn’t have been smoking & filling up with petrol! But being the concerned citizen that I am, I asked them what they were arresting her for, figuring that catching her arm ablaze would be punishment enough.

The police officer looked me dead in my eye and said … ‘WAVING A FIREARM’

3 Little Pigs
This is a true story, proving how fascinating the mind of a six year old is. They think so logically.

A teacher was reading the story of the Three Little Pigs to her class.
She came to the part of the story where first pig was trying to gather the building materials for his home.
She read. ‘And so the pig went up to the man with the wheelbarrow full of straw and said: ‘Pardon me sir, but may I have some of that straw to build my house?’
The teacher paused then asked the class: ‘And what do you think the man said?’
One little boy raised his hand and said very matter-of-factly…
‘I think the man would have said – ‘Well, bloody hell!! A talking pig!’
The teacher had to leave the room.

Oxymoron's:

Why do "overlook" and "oversee" mean opposite things?
Why is "phonics" not spelled the way it sounds?
If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay you to do it?
If all the world is a stage, where is the audience sitting?
If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?
If you are cross-eyed and have dyslexia, can you read all right?
Why is bra singular and panties plural?
Why do you press harder on the buttons of a remote control when you know the batteries are dead?
Why do we put suits in garment bags and garments in a suitcase?
How come abbreviated is such a long word?
Why do we wash bath towels? Aren't we clean when we use them?
Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle?
Why do they call it a TV set when you only have one?
Christmas - What other time of the year do you sit in front of a dead tree and eat candy out of your socks?

The Taxi Driver

A woman and her twelve-year-old son were riding in a taxi in Detroit. It was raining and all the prostitutes were standing under awnings.

“Mom,” said the boy, “what are all those women doing?”
“They’re waiting for their husbands to get off work,” she replied.

The taxi driver turns around and says, “Geez lady, why don’t you tell him the Truth? They’re hookers, boy! They have sex with men for money.”

The little boy’s eyes get wide and he says, “Is that true Mom?”

His mother, glaring hard at the driver, answers “Yes”.

After a few minutes, the kid asks, “Mom, if those women have babies, what happens to them?”

She said, “Most of them become taxi drivers.”

Listen Here...

Having already downed a few drinks, she turns around, faces him, looks him straight in the eye and says, "Listen here, good looking. I will screw anybody, anytime, anywhere, their place, my place, in the car, front door, back door, on the ground, standing up, sitting down, naked or with clothes on... It doesn't matter to me. I just love it."

His eyes now wide with interest, he responds, "No kidding... I'm in Government too. Are you federal or state?

Getting Old
Three old guys are out walking.
First one says, ‘Windy, isn’t it?’
Second one says, ‘No, it’s Thursday!’
Third one says, ‘So am I. Let’s go get a beer..’

A man was telling his neighbour, ‘I just bought a new hearing aid. It cost me four thousand dollars, but it’s state of the art.. It’s perfect.’
‘Really,’ answered the neighbour. ‘What kind is it?’
‘ Twelve thirty..’

Morris, an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical.
A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm.
A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said, ‘You’re really doing great, aren’t you?’
Morris replied, ‘Just doing what you said, Doc: ‘Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.”
The doctor said, ‘I didn’t say that.. I said, ‘You’ve got a heart murmur; be careful.’

A little old man shuffled slowly into an ice cream
parlour and pulled himself slowly, painfully, up onto a stool.
After catching his breath, he ordered a banana split.
The waitress asked kindly, ‘Crushed nuts?’
‘No,’ he replied, ‘Arthritis.’

Great Truths That Adults Have Learned!

   1) Raising teenagers is like trying to nail Jell-O to a tree.
   2) There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. For example, I am sitting      here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt.
   3) Reason to smile: Every seven minutes of every day someone in an aerobics class pulls a hamstring.
   4) The best way to keep kids at home is to make the home a pleasant atmosphere...and let the air out of their tires.
   5) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet with a few nuts.
   6) Middle age is when you choose cereal for the fiber, not the toy.
    7) The more you complain, the longer God lets you live.
    8) If you can remain calm, you don't have all the facts.
    9) Eat a live toad first thing in the morning, and nothing worse can happen to you the rest of the day.
   10) You know you're getting old when you stoop to tie your shoes and wonder what else you can do while you're down there.
