becoming my Father.

there are times that I feel that I have become my father.I enjoy some of the same music that he did,all though I would never admit it ti him when he was alive. Now I do tell him. Of course we always did see eye to eye on some music. We both agreed that the following artists were great entertainers.Nat "King" Cole,Glen Miller,Tommy Dorsey. There are other that I would listen to as well.I still do. You can find some of the music we both enjoyed on my other site. It is still a work in progress.

One thing that I did not say and will now is Dad passed away way too young in 1984, he was only 58. I miss the good things about my Dad the bad stuff well I do not miss that. I know the Mom and Dad are together and have a good time dancing as they did when the were young.

something of interest?

I put a question make at the end of the title for a simple reason.I find the last 3 songs on my play list interesting. The first song is Greensleeves, played on a Hammered Dulcimer by a lady named,Joemy Wilson. The other two songs are nice as well they have an Irish flavor to them.

I did it.

I'm not sure how I did this but I have added music to my blog. You can even change a song by just clicking the fast forward symbol and/or clicking on a song futher down the list.
Hope you enjoy my selections.

More on the Hammered Dulicmer

Today I'm going to sing the praises of three people that played a part of my learning the Hammered Dulicmer. The first two People had made video tapes that helped me.Mr.Dennis Lee of Texas Music and Videos who made learn the Hammered Dulicmer, who by the way has more and different Videos. Mr John McCutcheon who's video is titled Hammered dulicmer taught by him. And thirdly I would like to Mention Ms Tina Bergmann who had given me a total of 22 lessions. That were taped as the lession was being given so that I could practise what i learned, unfortunaly the tapes were distroyed by accident.I had recorded over the lessions making some other tapes,Dumb me.
If there any mispelled words blame the spell check for it does not want to check my spelling for some strange reason.

Playing the dulicmer

For those that are curious. The dulicmer is played by holding tiny hammers in your hands. Some hammers have two sides a soft side and a hard side the soft side plays softer note and the hard side plays louder notes.think of playing the Hammered dulicmer as if you are playing a piano when you hit a key on the piano that causes a hammer to strike the wire inside the piano and plays a note.playing the dulicmer is just like that except you control the hammers and direct the hammers to the strings and thus playing the notes. I hope in my round about way I have aseh son light on how to play the dulicmer.

The Hammered Dulicmer

I was asked to post the origins of the hammered dulicmer,Here is the orgins as best as I can explain. This instrument is generally credited to have began about 2,000 years ago in the area of Iran&Iraq, then called Pursia, where it was called a santur. In different parts of the world it is called different names.too many to list here. I can suggest that you google the hammered dulicmer, and you will find several different sources to read.one of the soirces is Wikipedia, there are others. All I know is that I enjoy listening to the different tapes and c/ds that i have.I will admit that I have not played my dulicmer regularly for a long time, partially due to the seizures,I'm afraid of falling on it and distroying it.Someting that I do not want to due since it cost me a lot of money when I bought it.I had also bought a bunch of different books with music for the dulicmer and had taken some lessions.
I do hope that I have shead som light on this instrument that berings me such pleasure, even if I cannot play it my self.

the Hammered Dulicmer

the Hammmered dulicmer has been called many thing in different parts of the world. The dulicmer can trace it's roots to the country called Pursia sometime before Christ.I donot know the exactly when but I do know this fact. The dulicmer that is pictured is my dulicmer.I had discovered this musical instrament while chaseing the Ohio and Erie canal in the Roscoe Villiage area of Coshoton county here in Ohio. This was in 1991 at the time there was the regional dulicmer contest going on at the same time as a festival for the instrument.

I bought mine in 1992.In 1993 I entered the novice class competion and I was able to win third place.I was pleasantly surprized at winning this. The songs that I played were self taugh useing a video tape to watch the playing and then trying to copy what I was watching and learning.
