PARKLAND, Wash. - Investigators identified a man with an extensive criminal past as a "person of interest" in the ambush on four police officers, who were shot to death Sunday morning at a coffee shop.

Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer told reporters that Maurice Clemmons, 37, was one of several people investigators want to talk to and that he could not be called a suspect at this point.

In a news release, the sheriff's office said Clemmons has an extensive violent criminal history from Arkansas, including aggravated robbery and theft. Clemmons also recently was arrested and charged in Pierce County in Washington state for third-degree assault on a police officer, and second-degree rape of a child.

The four officers were with the 100-member police department of Lakewood, which adjoins the unincorporated area of Parkland, where the shootings took place. The city identified the victims as Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39; Ronald Owens, 37; Tina Griswold, 40; and Greg Richards 42.

Possible struggle
Troyer said one of those officers fought with the gunman and may have wounded him before the officer died just outside the doorway. He told reporters that investigators were asking area medical providers to report any people wounded by gunshots.

Troyer said investigators believe two of the officers were shot dead while sitting in the shop, and a third was killed after standing up. The fourth apparently struggled with the gunman out the doorway and "gave up a good fight," getting off a few shots before he was either shot there or succumbed to earlier wounds.

"We believe there was a struggle, a commotion, a fight ... that he fought the guy all the way out the door," Troyer said.

He added, "We hope that he hit him."

Troyer said the gunman entered the coffee house and walked up to the counter as if to place an order. A barista saw a gun when the man opened his jacket and fled out the back door. The man then turned and opened fire on the officers as they sat working on their laptops, killing the three men and one woman in what Troyer described as a targeted ambush.

Troyer said the attack was clearly targeted at the officers, not a robbery gone bad.

"This was more of an execution. Walk in with the specific mindset to shoot police officers," he said.

Troyer said the officers — all from the Lakewood Police Department — were catching up on paperwork at the beginning of their shifts when they were attacked at 8:15 a.m. Sunday.

"There were marked patrol cars outside and they were all in uniform," Troyer said.

There was no indication of any connection with the Halloween night shooting of a Seattle police officer. The suspect in that shooting remains hospitalized.

"We won't know if it's a copycat effect or what it was until we get the case solved," Troyer said. "We don't even have a suspect ID right now."

Troyer estimated that a couple of hundred officers from the Washington State Patrol and multiple surrounding police agencies in the area were at the crime scene, with some coming on their own time.

"We have no motive at all," Troyer said. "I don't think when we find out what it is, it will be anything that makes any sense or be worth it."

I got this in an email from Jeremy,This is indeed proof that prayer works.

Sorry about the all caps but, I am extremely happy!

She got out of the hospital within the last 15 minutes. They did an angioplasty this morning at 0945 and found 2 blockages. However, they are less than 70 percent and as such do NOT currently require stents. We are monitoring her closely to watch for signs she's bleeding out of her leg. Hopefully she won't - the blood thinners will be out of her system fairly soon.

Thank you guys so much for all the prayers - we needed them and still do...

Computer problems and seizures.

well today has been one giant Pain in the You know where,Yesterday we went and got our H1Ni shots,than the computer decided that it did not want to work.Well I killed it and brought it back to life.Than today it still was malfunctioning so I had to kill it again.Than I had a seizure and sleep for about 3 hours.had dinner,and watched the New Star Trek movie on our DVD Player.
I'm still working to get every thing back.I have my AWWW Monday programed to go.I will be spending more time getting this computer back up to snuff,so I will see you all soon.I Promise!!

today was fun.(well maybe)

This Morning my Wife Celestine and I along with her sister Josephine went and got our H1N1 shots.To get to Where they were giving the shots you had to board a bus at a shopping mall and be taken to school,unless of course you were handicapped,that you could go and part at the school.
Because of my seizures I use a wheelchair when I am out and about(falling down while standing up an having one is no fun),needless to say I needed it today.I had at least 4 Partial complex seizures while we were at the school where they were giving the shots.and had several here at home as well.
Needless to say I had a monster of a headache most of the day.when we got home O napped for about 3 and1/2 hours.

To everyone,and Sandee in particular.I consider myself to be an Independent,and Have posted several postings that the right might not be happy with and have not posted many things against the left.For that I am sorry if I have offended. I told myself not to post slanted political things,and am guilty of doing just that.

We yanks just love to pass the blame. What other country can boast of 3 lawyers for every citizen. We come up with the best reasons to blame others for our own problems. Here's a small list...

If a woman burns her thighs on the hot coffee she's holding in her lap while driving, she blames the restaurant.

If your teen-age son kills himself or then next door neighbors, you blame the rock 'n' roll music or musician he liked.

If you smoke three packs a day for 40 years and die of lung cancer, your family blames the tobacco company.

If your daughter gets pregnant by the football captain you blame the school for poor sex education.

If your neighbor crashes into a tree while driving home drunk, you blame the bartender.

If your cousin gets AIDS because the needle he used to shoot up with heroin was dirty, you blame the government for not providing clean ones.

A Personal Milestone.

I have been writing about my attempt to loose weight for some time now. My highest weight this time was 316 lbs.(something that I was not proud of) I stepped on the scale just before taking my daily shower and was pleasantly surprised that I have finally broke thorough the plateau that I have been holding at for a couple of weeks.I am now at 286 lbs.that's right 286 for a total of 30 lbs down.My ultimate goal is to be under 250 lbs. I would love to be at my high school weight of 215 lbs,I really would,unfortunately the last time I was at that weight I was in the 11 Th grade. Some 38 years ago.I ams still limited in the way I do exersize due to the seizures and have been doing the portion cintrol method of weight loss.

On A personal Note.

Today has not been a good day at all. Our new windows that were installed last week were stained and today the person that stained them came back to finish the job. I cannot remember what he had to do today. It was some kind of clear coating that he needed to do. This triggered an asthma attack and I needed to do a breathing treatment. After the treatment I was coughing up a lot of junk. This happened several times and I also had a couple of seizures to boot.

Needless to say this has been a really bad day. I had several seizures after I had dinner. So I'm exhausted, and am going to bed very soon. I did not visit with many people today and barely commented on anyone's blog at all.

Tomorrow is Veterans Day. Take a minute to say a prayer for all our service people now serving and those that have served. I hope every on says a special prayer for the victims of the senseless attack that left 12 dead.

I have had a very bad day

Yep folks today has sucked on a personal level that has had me bummed out. The news about the shooting of soldiers by a major at Fort Hood, that further put me in a bummed out mood. I did not answer some of the comments that everyone wrote, I'll get to it. I'll try to visit with every one tomorrow depending on my mood. I did see my shrink today and she made a medication change. It will take a while to see if it works. See you when I see you. Hugs my friends.

After his death, Osama bin Laden was allowed a short visit Heaven.

There he was greeted by George Washington, who proceeded to slap him across the face and yell at him, "How dare you try to destroy the nation I helped conceive!"

Patrick Henry approached and punched Osama in the nose and shouted, "You wanted to end our liberties but you failed."

One Texas Soldier

A large group of Taliban soldiers are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand-dune. "One Texas soldier is better than ten Taliban".

The Taliban commander quickly sends 10 of his best soldiers over the dune whereupon a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence.

The voice then calls out "One Texan is better than one hundred Taliban".

Furious, the Taliban commander sends his next best 100 troops over the dune and instantly a huge gunfight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence.

The Texan voice calls out again "One Texan is better than one thousand Taliban".

The enraged Taliban Commander musters one thousand fighters and sends them across the dune. Cannon, rocket and machine gun fire ring out as a huge battle is fought. Then silence.

Eventually one wounded Taliban fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any more men, its a trap. There's actually two of them."
