MY HAMMERED DULCIMER

MY HAMMERED DULCIMER
There are various Hammered Dulcimer postings from YouTube of different tunes, and NO I AM NOT PLAYING ANY OF THESE TUNES.Maybe some day when I have the equipment to do so.I have included a link to my You Tube Channel.I invite you to go and watch any of my videos on the site also check out some of the different channels I subscribe to.

ABOUT THE HAMMERED DULCIMER

The hammered dulcimer is an ancient trapezoidal musical instrument played by striking the strings with wooden hammers.

Originating in the Middle East about 2000 years ago, English soldiers brought the instrument back to England after their failed attempt to conquer Persia during the Crusades about 1000 years ago. Dulcimers have many names in many lands: santur in the Middle East, yang q'in in China, hackbrett in Austria, zither in Germany, and cymbalom in Hungary. The name "dulcimer" is derived from Latin, meaning "sweet sound". Hammered dulcimers were popular in England during the reign of James I, when the Bible was translated into English as the King James Bible. The dulcimer was mentioned in the Book of Daniel 3:5 among other instruments "..the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music..." The dulcimer was later mechanized to become what we now know as the harpsichord which later evolved in the piano.

THE SERENITY PRAYER

THE SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen. - Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

I'm sorry.

Today has been a extremely bad day. I marked all the Google reader posts as read, and did not do my usual Entrecard dropping. It started this morning and has not gotten any better.

This is just flat out right wrong!

Marine’s father ordered to pay Westboro’s court costs

Lawyers for the father of a Marine who died in Iraq and whose funeral was picketed by anti-gay protesters say a court has ordered him to pay the protesters’ appeal costs.

On Friday, the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ordered that Albert Snyder of York, Pa., pay costs associated with Fred Phelps’ appeal. Phelps is the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church, which conducted protests at the funeral of Snyder’s son, Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, in Westminster in 2006.

Lawyers for Snyder say the Court of Appeals has ordered him to pay $16,510.80 to Phelps for costs relating to the appeal, despite the fact that the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to review the Court of Appeals’ decision.

They say that Snyder is also struggling to come up with fees associated with filing a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court.

“We are extremely disappointed,” said Sean E. Summers, an attorney for Snyder. He added that the U.S. Supreme Court will likely hear the case during its October term and make a decision in June of next year.

“The Court of Appeals certainly could have waited until the Supreme Court made its decision,” Summers added. “There was no hardship presented by Phelps.”

Summers said there is no timetable for when the costs must be paid, but if his client doesn’t have the money when Phelps requests payment the matter would go into collections. Snyder could lose his property or his wages, Summers said.

Summers added that if Snyder pays Phelps’ court costs and then receives a favorable ruling from the Supreme Court, “imagine him trying to get money back from Phelps.”

The high court agreed earlier this month to consider whether the protesters’ message is protected by the First Amendment or limited by the competing privacy and religious rights of the mourners.

LTC Tim Karcher
LTC Tim Karcher
U.S. Army
Lieutenant Colonel Tim Karcher was shot in the shoulder in Iraq back in 2006. After just 5 months of healing at home that included 7 surgeries, he chose to go back to war.

"My unit was over there, they were taking casualties. It felt terrible to be here, it felt wrong," he said.

Reunited with his troops, Karcher was in Baghdad last summer for the historic transfer of power from the U.S. to the Iraqis.
But 10 days after that historic day, Karcher's vehicle was bombed and he lost both of his legs in the explosion.

"I'm very proud of him, he's fought for his life, he fought the whole summer to stay alive and he's taking it and running with it, he's so positive," said Alesia Karcher, Tim's wife.

Karcher says the tragedy of losing his legs made him realize what he still had including a wife and three children who need him.

"I could sit around and have a pity party everyday, but it's not going to grow my legs back," he said. "Life kicks you in the teeth every now and again, you get to decide how you react to it."

You can read more about LTC Karcher here and here.

National Medal of Honor Day.

The United States Congress has designated March 25th of each year as NATIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR DAY, a day dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients. (Public Law 101-564) was conceived in the State of Washington. The date was chosen to highlight this special day because it was on March 25, 1863 that the first Medals of Honor were presented...to six members of Andrews' Raiders.

The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States Government. It is bestowed on members of the United States armed forces who distinguish themselves "conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States." As the award citation includes the phrase "in the name of Congress", it is sometimes erroneously called the Congressional Medal of Honor, however the official title is the Medal of Honor.

On this day, please display our Flag and thank our men and women in uniform. Join me in prayer of thanks for all who are brave enough to protect our nation.

My Thanks to AIRMANMOM for bringing this to my attension.

Good By Kelly Robinson (ROBERT CULP)

PHOTO TAKEN IN OCTOBER 2006
Robert Martin Culp (August 16, 1930 – March 24, 2010) was an American actor and scriptwriter, perhaps best known for his work in television. Culp earned an international reputation for his role as Kelly Robinson on I Spy (1965-1968), the espionage series, where he and co-star Bill Cosby played a pair of secret agents.

Good By Danial Boone.(FESS PARKER)

This photo was taken of him in 1985

Fess Elisha Parker, Jr. (August 16, 1924 – March 18, 2010)[1] was an American film and television actor best known for his 1950s portrayals of Davy Crockett for Walt Disney and his late 1960s portrayals of Daniel Boone.[2] [3] He was also known as a wine maker and resort owner-operator.

CONGRATS To MY SISTER SANDY.

Well folks it is official,I now have a great neice and my sister Sandy and her hubby Al are now Grandparents. My neice ALLESAN had her baby today! Granny just called to tell me about it.

Good bye Miss Barbara.

With my thanks to the OHIO MEDIA WATCH FOR THIS ONE.
"MISS BARBARA" PASSES ON: If you grew up on Northeast Ohio television into the early 1970s, you need no further explanation.

Barbara Plummer, known as "Miss Barbara" on Scripps ABC affiliate WEWS/5's local edition of "Romper Room", has died.

From her online obituary (we have the text, but don't have a link):

Most people would know her as Miss Barbara, the enthusiastic host of WEWS Channel 5's Romper Room. From 1958 to 1972 children across Cleveland tuned in daily to learn their Do-Bees and their Don't Bees, to have fun, and maybe - just maybe - have Miss Barbara see them through her Magic Mirror and say their names out loud on television.

Before, during and after her time as "Miss Barbara", Plummer would enjoy a long, active life.

From the obituary:

She was a mother, a wife, an active supporter of charitable organizations and, for a time, she was a local television personality. And that is the order of importance she would have placed on the various roles she filled in her remarkable life.

And more on her TV career, as one of the pioneering women in local television:

It probably would have been a beautifully normal life if she had not heard, in April 1958, that WEWS was advertising for candidates to host their version of the syndicated television show, Romper Room. She loved to say that she went for an interview only because she was curious to see a television studio. Whatever her motivation was, she competed with 90 other women for the position and was selected. After asking her husband if it was OK - she began a television career that would eventually have middle-aged baby-boomers coming up to her in the grocery store to ask, "Are you Miss Barbara? I loved Romper Room, but how come you never said my name?"

Barbara Plummer died March 20th at the age of 80, after a struggle with pneumonia and cancer...

Sgt. William Robert Cain
August 1, 1922 - July 4, 1944

William Robert Cain (August 1, 1922 - July 4, 1944) was a husband to Genevieve (Anderson) and the only son of Cleveland and Margaret Cain. He was the baby brother to three sisters, Lena Mae, Anna Phyllis (who died in 1932) and Lora Genevieve.

He was born in the town named after his ancestors called Cainsville, Missouri. He grew up, went to school and played baseball there until he decided to join the U.S. Army. He made the decision to join the Army after graduating high school earlier in the year of 1940 but he would not be turning eighteen until August so he waited and enlisted right after his 18th birthday.

The letter his parents received was dated August 27, 1940 asking them to fill out before a Notary Public, Postmaster or Justice of Peace an Age Verification and Consent Papers and sign BOTH PAPERS in PEN or INK. They were asked to kindly give this their immediate attention as this young man cannot be enlisted till the papers were returned.

Sgt. Robert Cain, (lovingly called Billy Bob by his family and Doc by the Army men), enlisted in August, 1940 and ranked as Sergeant in the medical corps. in charge of hospital on shipboard. His last duty was at Letterman Hospital, Presidio, California. In all he had been assigned to four different ships and made 34 trips over the ocean, the last one a supply ship called SS Jean Nicolet. Sgt. Cain was serving aboard the SS Jean Nicolet when it was attacked by the Japanese on July 2, 1944. The Jean Nicolet was sunk and Sgt. Cain was one of many men taken hostage. He was also one of many men who were tortured for two days before he was killed or died in the Indian Ocean.

From Debbie: I have heard family stories about him, one of which of course is how he died in WWII and that he received the Purple Heart of which I am very proud of. More stories where about how he loved his family. I personally, as his Great Niece, have the love of medicine and caring for others as he did. I am a nurse. This is why it means so much to me that he is remembered as well as the others who were on the Liberty Ship Jean Nicolet that fatal day!
These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

it's been one of those days.

I have mainly been sleeping and playing my games today. In fact in about 15 minuites I'm heading for bed.

THIS ONE JUST TICKED ME OFF

I am going to post a copy of a posting that I found.I WILL NOT POST A LINKBACK TO THE BLOGGER. That is not why I'm posting it here I SUPPORT THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH.THAT BEING SAID IF YOU GOING TO POST A SEMI CONTROVERSIAL POSTING ALLOW ALL COMMENTS,NOT JUST A FEW PEOPLE THAT ARE PART OF YOUR CLICK!

Hate groups or hated groups

I do not believe that there are any hate groups out there. Why? Because who actually named these hate groups? Isn't the people who are not into these groups, named it? I don't think I will name my group who caters to a specific people "hate group". They have a certain way in believing with things. It doesn't mean that they hate others who are not in their group.

With that said, I am inviting people who are into open carry at Harrisburg on Sunday. Show your support and become one of us who believe in freedom. I know others who are against open carry will be there too to protest it. If you are for guns come and support us.

Now this is the comment I tried to post ont this site as a reply to the posting::

I beg to differ with you.there are infact hate groups here in America. One such group that comes to mind it the KKK.

when I hit the post comment button I was denied the right to post my comment.because I was not a member of this site.

Now I know that I am no saint, not that I would not want to be someday. The thing about me is that I do allow ANYONE to post a comment that maybe in direct oppisite of my posting.THE ONLY THING THAT I WILL NOT ALLOW IS A PERSONAL ATTACK ON ME!

W.T.F.?????!!!!!!!

As the title says here comes a RANT. WHY IN THE HELL ON MY MAIN COMPUTER(The Downstairs one) I CAN NOT PLAY THE SONGS ON THE PLAYLIST AND ALSO THE YOU TUBE VIDEOS.ON THE BACKUP COMPUTER EVERY THING WORKS ON THE UPSTAIRS COMPUTER THAT WORKS WITH THE WIRELESS NETWORK THAT I HAVE! A trucker who has been out on the road for three weeks stops at a brothel outside Kalgoorlie. He walks straight up to the Madam, drops down $500 and says, I want your ugliest woman and a burnt chop.

The Madam is astonished. But sir, for that kind of money you could have one of my finest ladies and a lovely three-course meal.

The trucker replies, I'm not horny... I'm homesick.

Irish Monuments

I found this great video on my friend Ancient Digger's site. Please click the link to enjoy the Video.Happy Saint Patricks day to one and all.
here is what was posted with the video. It's only a day before the green beer and the funny jigs start taking over the streets. Yes, it's time for Saint Paddy's Day. The day should be filled with cheer and shared with your closest friends, and maybe that one strange guy sitting by himself in the corner-just kidding.

So to honor the heritage, culture, and the archaeology of the Irish, I found an educational video by National Geographic about the Irish monuments and how they are slowly diminishing because of notoriously damp weather in Ireland.

So, although you may be celebrating the culture of Ireland on one of the happiest times of the year, you also need to take notice that the culture and history needs to be preserved. As a great lover of fortifications, it breaks my heart that some of the most historical and breathtaking sites in Ireland might not be around long enough for me to see them.
ERIN GO BAUGH!!

Prayers for a Police Officer and his family and the Law Enforcement Comunity

Again I have a heavy heart and have to report a second Police Officer this week IS ADDED TO END OF WATCH.

ELYRIA -- An Elyria police officer is dead after a man shot him on 18th Street Monday night. Officer James Kerstetter was responding to the neighborhood for a 911 call from a woman who said a neighbor exposed himself to her child and kicked in a window.
The suspect has also been fatally shot. Police identify him as Ronald Palmer.
Police Chief Duane Whitely says Kerstetter came into contact with Palmer when he entered the home on 18th St. Palmer than shot Kerstetter. Kerstetter radioed for back-up and reported that he had been shot.
When Palmer left the house back-up Elyria officers confronted, shot and killed the suspect.
Chief Whitely says other officers tried to treat the wounded patrolman, who was taken to EMH Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead.
Chief Whitely says Kerstetter was on the force 15 years, hired in September of 1994. While servicing on the Elyria Police Department, Kerstetter served as an accident investigator, field training officer and member of the departments special response team. Prior to that Kerstetter was a Lorain County sheriff's deputy before that.
The investigation has been turned over to the Lorain County Sheriff's office. A sheriff's deputy said that she could not give any information on the case.
Kerstetter is the son of retired Elyria Township Fire Chief James Kerstetter. He is survived by his wife Tammy and three daughters, Misty, 17, Shelby, 14, and Brittany, 8.
A fund will be set up at First Merit Bank in the name of James A. Kerstetter. Donations can be made at any First Merit Bank branch.
OFFICER KERSTETTER,THANK YOU FOR SERVICE,REST IN PEACE

Prayers for a Fallen Police Officer. END OF WATCH 3/14/2010

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS -- Thirty-year-old Cleveland Heights police officer Thomas F. Patton collapsed and died while chasing a suspect Saturday night.

A spokesman with the Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office said that Patton died of a "cardiac incident".

"We lost a big piece of Cleveland Heights when Officer Patton went down," said Cleveland Heights mayor Ed Kelley. "He's just the kind of guy you would like to be with or loved to have as you next door neighbor.

"He certainly loved protecting the city," Kelley said. "I mean he gave his life. He's a hero."

Around 8:15 p.m. Saturday, an off-duty Cleveland Heights police officer working security at the Marc's Drugstore on Coventry Road tried to stop a man from harrassing two female employees at the store.

According to police, the suspect, Malcolm L. Bryant, 21, told the two workers, ages 17 and 20, that he wanted to take them to a party where there would be drinking and illegal drugs.

The off-duty officer told Bryant that the two women wanted to be left alone. Police said Bryant then verbally threatened the woman and spit in the officer's face.

The officer then pursued Bryant by foot and called for more assistance.

Several Cleveland Heights police officers responded to the call, including Patton, a nine-year veteran with the department.

Patton and two officers chased Bryant on foot through back yards and wooded areas near the store.

At Glenmont and Mayfield Road, Officer Patton stopped momentarily, and rested his hands on his knees.

Officer Patton then began to run again, and collapsed.

He was taken to Huron Hospital, where a rescue squad and medical personnel were unable to revive him.

"He was engaged to be married," said Kelley. "He was looking for a house here in Cleveland Heights to move and start his family. It's a great loss."

Patton is the son of state Sen. Tom Patton, of Strongsville.

Bryant was apprehended by other Cleveland Heights police officers and faces various felony charges.

Patton is the second Cleveland Heights police officer to die in the line of duty in the past three years.

In May, 2007, officer Jason West was shot and killed when he responded to a fight on Altamont Avenue. The gunman who shot West is serving a life sentence.

A SPECIAL NOTE: END OF WATCH DENOTES THAT THE OFFICER DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY.

Wacky Wednesday

Top This One For A Speeding Ticket

Two Highway Patrol Officers were conducting speeding enforcement on I-15, just north of Oceanside , San Diego , California .

One of the officers was using a hand held radar device to check speeding vehicles approaching the crest of a hill. The officers were suddenly surprised when the radar gun began reading 300 miles per hour and climbing.

The officer attempted to reset the radar gun, but it would not reset and then it suddenly turned off.

Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact locked on to a USMC F/A-18 Hornet which was engaged in a low flying exercise near this, it's home base location.

Back at the California Highway Patrol Headquarters the Patrol Captain fired off a complaint to the US Marine Corps. Base Commander for shutting down his equipment.

The reply came back in true USMC style:

'Thank you for your letter.
You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Hornet had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked on to, your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it, which is why it shut down.
Furthermore, an Air-to-Ground missile aboard the fully armed aircraft had also automatically locked on to your equipment location.
Fortunately, the Marine Pilot flying the Hornet recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile system alert status and was able to override the automated defense system before the missile was launched to destroy the hostile radar position.
The pilot suggests you cover your mouths when cussing at them, since the video systems on these jets are very high tech.
Sergeant Johnson, the officer holding the radar gun, should get his dentist to check his left rear molar. It appears the filling is loose. Also, the snap is broken on his holster.'

All is swell here at Golch Central.

Well folks Golch central's main computer is just about back to normal. I still have a few missing files, and I don't care.

Again the effin gremlins stuck.

As if my life has not been hectic enough this past few weeks, the gremlins that are hiding inside this computer in my living room decided to thumb it's nose at me and stop this thing from working. I have been working to get the computer back to the point I have it now. I still have a lot of files to put back into it. Tomorrow Celestine will be out most of the day so I'll be using the back-up 'puter upstairs most of the day. She said that she would feel safer if I just stayed upstairs. She has good reason for that. I kinda rocked her world this past week.

This being said I am fighting really deep depression due to the severity of my seizures. I told my doctor that I am glad that I do not own a gun, because I would have used it A TIME LONG AGO. There are days that I fight with these feelings again. I am holding on, I will not act on these feelings. If thing get any worse I will go to the emergency room for further treatment and hospitalization. I am visiting with every one, I am not commenting very much, I just don't have it in me to comment. I am sorry that I do not. Please keep me and Celestine in your prayers that we keep the strength that we need to carry on every day.

I'm taking a break.

Last night and today has been bad, so I may not be around to visit much. I have already deleted everything in my reader. Friday Flashback is scheduled to run. I'll be around soon. Part of the problem is that I am taking doxicycline for prostatitis and that may be causing the more severe seizures, but I need to take this medication, and I still have a couple more weeks to go. I am not even visiting ALL (Just a select few) the Entrecard sites that I do as well.

A special Thought.

Yesterday I celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary ( this is Celestine's first marriage). I feel blessed because my first marriage only lasted 5 years. I am not alone in the remarriage department. My youngest sister Linda and her Hubby Rod (his second) will be celebrating their 31 this month. Our middle Sister Sandy and Al will be celebrating their 29th this year. Both of them were married to someone else before. I celebrate all marriages that have lasted, it shows that people still believe in commitment. I can speak for myself and Rod, Sandy and Al, that we have been blessed the second time around. Thank you Lord for the learning mistakes that we all made the first time.

The Blogger's Prayer

Lord help me to learn to spell without spellcheck, manage to visit all that visit me, and post regularly - all in 5 minutes a day, so that I can clean house and take care of my family. Help me to not look at every occurrence in my life as a blog post, and to quit taking pictures of weird things to share as well. Please Lord, help me to stop talking about my blog friends as though they are next door neighbors or someone I have known all of my life. And help me dear Lord, to think of something witty and wise to post tomorrow.
