The Blogger's Prayer

Lord help me to learn to spell without spellcheck, manage to visit all that visit me, and post regularly - all in 5 minutes a day, so that I can clean house and take care of my family. Help me to not look at every occurrence in my life as a blog post, and to quit taking pictures of weird things to share as well. Please Lord, help me to stop talking about my blog friends as though they are next door neighbors or someone I have known all of my life. And help me dear Lord, to think of something witty and wise to post tomorrow.

Dan Peek of America and solo Christian artist dies by Clueless

Dan Peek one of the founding members of the soft-rock group America" died in his sleep on July 24, 2011. The cause of death has not yet been determined, and news of his death were just released on Tuesday.  He was only 60 years old.

In 1972, America's  first number one hit was "A Horse With No Name,"  and in 1975, they had their second number one hit which was "Sister Golden Hair."  In 1977, Dan Peek left the group to become a contemporary Christian artist.
Sorry for the quality of the videos.  I always prefer to use videos that are closest to when the record was a hit or the original video.

You Are Imaginative

You are a dreamy, head in the clouds type of person. You love to imagine different worlds and lives.

You use your mind to escape boredom and sadness. You have a rich and delightful inner world.

You are a true romantic, in every sense of the word. You value love, and you have notions of how you want the world to be.

And while you are often buried in your own thoughts, you are also quite selfless. Part of your grand vision involves helping others.

Harvey had to be taken to the Vet again today. he has been throwing up most if not all of the food that he has been eating this weekend.Celestine called the vet yesterday and he said that he could not see him yesterday but to bring him in today.I'm hoping for the best, but I'm afraid that this will not be good. Last Monday he had that seizure,so he may be at the end.time will tell.

I Miss Trolleyville USA

I was just doing some of my Entrecard dropping when I ran across a fantastic posting about Trolleys over on Grampy's site. That made me sad that the Trolley Museum that we had here in the Greater Cleveland area called TROLLEYVILLE does not exist any longer. if folded when the Moble Home Park were it was located was sold and the grinches that bought the place wanted the trolleys taken out. Sadly the company tried to relocate without success.More info HERE and HERE

I just relized something.about a missing prayer request.

As the title says I just realized that a prayer request that I put together for last Thursday did not post nor was is it in draft. My mother-in-law Christine had to have some surgery near her eye to fix a problem that she had in her tear duct. She had a tough time with the general anesthesia that they used. She is doing better. In order to fix the problem they had to remove a dime sized piece of bone next to her nose. The recovery time is going to be at least 3 months before the tube they put in can be removed. Please keep her in your prayers as she is 86 and she may have a little difficulty with the recovery.

NO NO OH HELL NO!!

AS THE TITLE SAYS, I GOT A VIRUS FROM ONE OF THE ENTRECARD SITES I DROP ON. THE WAY I GOT THE VIRUS WAS THAT I FIRST HAD TO TAKE A SURVEY IN ORDER TO ENTER THE SITE. WHILE TAKING THE EFFIN SURVEY MY COMPUTER GOT INFECTED. I'M USING THE BACK UP COMPUTER TO POST THIS. I HAVE DELETED THE SITE FROM MY FAVES LIST AND I AM GOING TO DELETE ALL THE FAVS FROM MY 3 ENTRECARD BLOGS SO NO MORE DROPPING TODAY.

I DON'T LIKE POINTING FINGERS BUT THIS TIME I MUST. THIS BLOGGER HAS TWO SITES, THE FIRST ONE IS CALLED FUNKY TOWN AND HAD A SURVEY TO BE TAKEN FIRST TO ENTER THE SITE THAT EFFIN SURVEY CONTAINED A VIRUS THAT INFECTED THE GOLCH CENTRAL MAIN COMPUTER. I HAVE SINCE DELETED BOTH THE BLOGS THAT THIS PERSON HAS FROM MY DROP LIST AND FAVS.

Today is National Vanilla Ice Cream Day!!

Although this month is National Ice Cream Month, today is even more special as it is National Vanilla Ice Cream Day.  So, I'm going to share with you my eggless vanilla ice cream.

Okay, this is a recipe that is a combination of lots of recipes, so I can officially call it my own. I really enjoyed tweaking it. Now, if I can just figure out an eggless strawberry and chocolate one.

Vanilla Ice Cream

2 cups heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

3/4 cup sugar

1 vanilla bean (split and scraped) or 1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine all ingredients (including the bean and its pulp) in a large saucepan and place over medium heat. DO NOT LET MIXTURE BOIL!!! Stirring occasionally, bring the mixture to 170 degrees.

Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Remove the hull of the vanilla bean, pour mixture into a lidded container and refrigerate mixture overnight.

Follow ice cream maker directions. The volume should increase by 1/2 to 3/4 times, and reached a soft serve consistency. Spoon the mixture into an airtight container and harden in the freezer at least one hour before serving.

That year has gone fast

It is hard to believe that it has been a year already. Celestine gave me a "Re-Birthday card" today to show me how grateful she is that I survived my last suicide attempt. I AM SO GLAD THAT I DID AS WELL. THE FIRST COUPLE OF DAYS WERE TOUCH AND GO AS TO HOW MUCH DAMAGE I DID TO MYSELF from the combination of medications that I took. One was for my seizures and one was the medication I was on as a mood stabilizer. When I came to at the hospital, I could not even talk right. I did not have control over my urine and needed a catheter put in. I was in the cardiac care unit because my heart was unstable. They kept pumping medication into me to help stabilize me.

National Ice Cream Month

July 17, 2011 was National Ice Cream Day!! (From Punchbowl.com) I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! What better day to shout this mantra than today—it’s National Ice Cream Day!

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month. He also declared that the third Sunday in July would be National Ice Cream Day. We’re definitely thankful, because ice cream is a summertime (or anytime!) favorite for people of all ages. With hundreds of flavors and toppings to choose from, you can't go wrong with ice cream!

Whether you get it in a cup or in a cone, atop a waffle or in a banana split, make sure to visit your local ice cream shop today to get some cold, delicious ice cream. Watch out for ice cream events and freebies happening in your area! Happy National Ice Cream Day!
Sorry, I'm too late for most of them, but some are offering specials for the whole month because the whole month of JULY is NATIONAL ICE CREAM MONTH!!

I thought that I would highlight some uniquely and wonderfully Los Angeles artisan ice cream and gelato heavens.  I know gelato isn't an ice cream, but it seemed to fit here and I'm dying for some now.  I will also let the videos and pictures speak for themselves, but they are all absolutely fabulous and artisian!!!

Unique flavors that dance in your mouth!!

Carmela's handmade ice creams and sorbets are made in small batches from fresh, real ingredients such as herbs & spices, flowers, and seasonal fruits. We use farmers market produce and organic dairy. We believe seasonal tastes better, so check in often to see what’s fresh.

Carmela Mortarotti was the grandmother of co-founder, Jessica Mortarotti. The daughter of a baker, Carmela taught Jessica the joys of working in the kitchen at a very young age. The name translates to garden.

Although their flavors are untraditional, they dance in your mouth as the quality, vibrant taste and new combinations sing in harmony!!

Bulgarini Gelato (taken from thier website and is a review from LA Weekly)
"Avenue to the Sky," it was once called, a broad, swift thoroughfare rising from the Pasadena business district up to the steep San Gabriel Mountains. Henry Ford himself used to test the engines of his cars against Lake Avenue's steep upper grade. And as near the top as any business in Altadena, tucked in behind an auto parts store, is Bulgarini Gelato, the most improbable ice cream store in California, almost a gelato speakeasy, where the gelati are labeled only in Italian and the best flavors include Florentine chocolate speckled with sea salt and a goat-milk gelato with roasted cacao nibs that could double as a cheese course. The proprietor, soccer-mad Roman expat Leo Bulgarini, has been known to pull his delicious sorbetti from the menus of restaurants that fail to come up to his standards. But the gelateria is a singular, perfect blossom: gelato powerfully flavored with the pistachios he hand-carries back from Bronte, vibrant peach sorbetto, yogurt gelato scented with Tuscan olive oil, and dark, smoky chocolate gelati flavored with orange peel, with fresh hazelnuts or with rum. In the summer, he screens movies on the patio outside his shop, because as everyone knows, nothing goes better with a showing of La Dolce Vita than a dish of Santa Rosa plum sorbet.

I don't know how they do it, but they make the fruit or whatever flavor taste more like the original.  There melon sorbets taste more like melon than melon does.  Their hazelnut gelato tastes more like hazelnuts than hazelnuts.  My friend who introduced me to them told me this and I was really not understanding what he was saying.  My first taste and I really, really understood.

So, What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

just because I can

Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded by civilization that complains about the noise from the base and its planes, forgetting that it was there long before they were...  A certain lieutenant colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on the back.  Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere  near Luke AFB wrote the local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that disturbed his/her day at the mall.

When that individual read the response from a Luke AFB officer, it must have stung quite a bit.

The complaint:
'Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base:

Whom do we thank for the morning air show?  Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 A.M, a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing  west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet.  Imagine our good fortune!  Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyn’s early bird special?

Any response would be appreciated.

The response:

Regarding ’A wake-up call from Luke's jets' On June 15, at precisely 9:12  a.m. , a  perfectly timed four- ship fly by of F-1 6s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques.  Capt Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in  Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day.

At 9 a. M. On June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland  Memorial Park in  Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend.  Based on the letter writer's recount of the fly by, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured..

A four-ship fly by is a display of respect the Air Force gives to those who give their lives in defense of freedom.  We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.

The letter writer asks, ’Whom do we thank for the morning air show'?  The 56th Fighter Wing will make the call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt Fresques, and thank them for you, for it  was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their  lives.

Only 2 defining forces have ever offered to die for you....Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

An Update

Harvey is home. The vet thinks that maybe Harvey had a small stoke (because he's getting old), so the vet gave him a shot to thin his blood. He said to watch him for a couple of days and see if he gets worse. There may be some different factors that may have caused this but we are not sure what it is as of yet.

Prayers for Harvey

About a half an hour ago Harvey our cat pictured here
had what appeared to be a seizure. He was making the same crying noise that he makes when he is about to throw up (he does that a lot) so I went to see where he was and I saw him on his side having some kind of spasms. We called the vet and he has an appointment at 1:30pm today. Keep my little 18 1/2 year old in your prayers. I'm afraid we are going to have to put him to sleep.

2nd Lt. William Edward Metzger, Jr.
2nd Lt. William Edward Metzger, Jr.
22 years old from Lima, Ohio
729th Bombardment Squadron, 452nd Bomb Group (Heavy)
November 9, 1944
U.S. Army Air Forces

On May 16, 1945 2nd Lt. William E. Metzger was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions six months earlier.  His citation reads:

"On a bombing run upon the marshaling yards at Saarbrücken, Germany, on 9 November 1944, a B17 aircraft on which 2d Lt. Metzger was serving as copilot was seriously damaged by antiaircraft fire. Three of the aircraft's engines were damaged beyond control and on fire; dangerous flames from the No. 4 engine were leaping back as far as the tail assembly. Flares in the cockpit were ignited and a fire roared therein which was further increased by free-flowing fluid from damaged hydraulic lines. The interphone system was rendered useless. In addition to these serious mechanical difficulties the engineer was wounded in the leg and the radio operator's arm was severed below the elbow. Suffering from intense pain, despite the application of a tourniquet, the radio operator fell unconscious. Faced with the imminent explosion of his aircraft and death to his entire crew, mere seconds before bombs away on the target, 2d Lt. Metzger and his pilot conferred. Something had to be done immediately to save the life of the wounded radio operator. The lack of a static line and the thought that his unconscious body striking the ground in unknown territory would not bring immediate medical attention forced a quick decision. 2d Lt. Metzger and his pilot decided to fly the flaming aircraft to friendly territory and then attempt to crash land. Bombs were released on the target and the crippled aircraft proceeded along to Allied-controlled territory. When that had been reached 2d Lt. Metzger personally informed all crewmembers to bail out upon the suggestion of the pilot. 2d Lt. Metzger chose to remain with the pilot for the crash landing in order to assist him in this emergency. With only 1 normally functioning engine and with the danger of explosion much greater, the aircraft banked into an open field, and when it was at an altitude of 100 feet it exploded, crashed, exploded again, and then disintegrated. All 3 crewmembers were instantly killed. 2d Lt. Metzger's loyalty to his crew, his determination to accomplish the task set forth to him, and his deed of knowingly performing what may have been his last service to his country was an example of valor at its highest."

2nd Lt. Metzger's pilot, 1st Lt. Donald J. Gott, was also awarded the Medal Of Honor for his actions that day.  A video tribute to the three men lost.
