Our theme is “One hit wonders of when you were in high-school”” ! I was in my last year of Jr School in 1967 started in High School in 1968,1969,1970 and graduated January 1971
The Amboy Dukes - Journey to the Center of the Mind (Official Audio) (From 1968)
One Toke Over the Line Brewer and Shipley (from 1969)
Crazy Elephant - "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'" ( Stereo ) (from 1970)
Shocking Blue - Venus (The Original Version) From 1971)
While i'd never heard the Amboy Dukes, i remember the other three. It sounds like you graduated around the same time as my Sweetie, and ten years ahead of me.
ReplyDeletemessymimi,The Amboy Dukes got a lot of air time on Cleveland radio stations when this tune first came out here in Cleveland I guess because they were a Detroit Band and I could Pick up CKLW a detroit radio station station here in Cleveland. :) :-f :-h d-)

ReplyDeleteOh wow! Some cool songs
ReplyDeleteMike,
ReplyDeleteI remember "One Toke Over the Line" and "Venus" many years after they released. The late 60s I was a bit too young to pay a lot attention to mewsic.I guess the reason I know these is because they climbed the top of the chart and remain favorable oldies. Thanks for sharing your high school year one-hit wonders! Thanks for joining the 4M gang on the dance floor.
I was a year ahead of you in high school, and know all of these songs. WABC in New York City (where I grew up) did play the Amboy Dukes, and I LOVED that song. But I was able to get CKLW on certain nights, and I have such fond memories of that station, too. CKLW The Motor City! Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
