MY HAMMERED DULCIMER

MY HAMMERED DULCIMER
There are various Hammered Dulcimer postings from YouTube of different tunes, and NO I AM NOT PLAYING ANY OF THESE TUNES.Maybe some day when I have the equipment to do so.I have included a link to my You Tube Channel.I invite you to go and watch any of my videos on the site also check out some of the different channels I subscribe to.

ABOUT THE HAMMERED DULCIMER

The hammered dulcimer is an ancient trapezoidal musical instrument played by striking the strings with wooden hammers.

Originating in the Middle East about 2000 years ago, English soldiers brought the instrument back to England after their failed attempt to conquer Persia during the Crusades about 1000 years ago. Dulcimers have many names in many lands: santur in the Middle East, yang q'in in China, hackbrett in Austria, zither in Germany, and cymbalom in Hungary. The name "dulcimer" is derived from Latin, meaning "sweet sound". Hammered dulcimers were popular in England during the reign of James I, when the Bible was translated into English as the King James Bible. The dulcimer was mentioned in the Book of Daniel 3:5 among other instruments "..the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music..." The dulcimer was later mechanized to become what we now know as the harpsichord which later evolved in the piano.

THE SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Friday Flashback POST #1255

lets keep these guys in our prayers.

CA searchers scour for survivors of midair crash

SAN DIEGO – Aircraft and ships are scouring the ocean off San Diego for any signs of survivors of a nighttime collision of a Coast Guard C-130 airplane and a Marine Corps attack helicopter.

A crew of seven was aboard the airplane and two were aboard the helicopter when the aircraft collided Thursday night 50 miles west of the San Diego County coast and 15 miles east of San Clemente Island, a Navy training site.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Levi Read says the search is focused on the area of a debris field.

Read says that at the time of the crash, the C-130 was searching for a man in a skiff who was reported missing out of Los Angeles.

A Rant

Yesterday, while waiting to be taken to the OR to get the dental work done, the anesthesiologist pulled my wife aside to talk to her. He outright told her that I was faking the problems that I have. It was a good thing that I did not hear that asshole say that. If I had I would not have gone thought the procedure, and would have decked the so called doctor that left the hospital. JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE 2 INITIALS AFTER YOUR NAME (M.D.) DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO JUDGE SOMEONE BASED ON THE FACT THAT THE PATIENT HAS A MENTAL CONDITION.

I totally despise the doctors that cop the attitude that because a person is taking an anti depressant and or any mood stabilizing drug the the person is faking other health problems. People like that do not deserve to be a doctor. They are doing more harm than good. I am not naming this doctor, and I am considering filing a complaint against him with the hospital.

I guess first do no harm does not apply to mental health patients, this is downright discrimination. I guess they can get away with this just because they think they are Gods. In cases where doctors behave this way I have a special term for those 2 letters.(M.D.) Me Doctor, you nothing. It would serve this asshole right if they themselves have a child that had a mental health issue and get the same treatment that they dish out.

I had this problem with a Kaiser Hospital DR (surgeon). I had an infection that mimicked an appendicitis attack. He opened me up and saw that there was nothing wrong with my appendix, than went into instant asshole mode saying I was faking being sick. The infection that I had got so bad that I was running a high fever and throwing up bile, this jerk still maintained that there was nothing wrong with me. My primary care doctor rubber stamped the attitude.

wacky wednesday Senior Dress Code

Many of us 'Old Folks' (over 50, hovering near 50, or way over 50) are quite confused today about how we should present ourselves. Feeling 'young' , we try to conform to current fashions and present a youthful image.

Contrary to what you may have seen on the streets, the following combinations DO NOT go together and should be avoided:

1. A nose ring and bifocals
2. Spiked hair and bald spots
3. A pierced tongue and dentures
4. Miniskirts and support hose
5. Ankle bracelets and corn pads
6. Speedos and cellulite
7. A belly button ring and a gall bladder surgery scar
8. Unbuttoned disco shirts and a heart monitor
9. Midriff shirts and a midriff bulge
10. Bikinis and liver spots
11. Mini skirts and varicose veins

And, most importantly...at some point you have to give up the “DAISY DUKE” Shorts.

just to let you know that

Tomorrow (wednesday)I'm getting oral surgery done to repair a bunch of teeth. The reason it has to be done this way is because of my seizures so they have got to put me completely out and add some extra medication that will temporarily keep me from involuntary movements, and because of my sleep apnea,I may be spending the night in the hospital. I need your prayers! So if I do not see any of you until Thursday so be it.

Prayer Request

I'm posting this request for a fellow blogging friend Cliff. I received this email:

The past 24 hours have been very frustrating and tense. We went to the hospital to see Adam this afternoon and he told us he was seeing demons. He also said that the people in the hospital were poisoning him.

Like I said in the original request, today's Kathy's birthday and this is not the way she wanted to spend it. Me, I went from an emotional high, emceeing the band show, to a crash and burn when I first received the news. I'm not so worried about myself, as I have more control over my own emotions, than I do others.

I'm on vacation this week and I'm going to try to make it a good week for Kathy. Adam is in good hands at Barberton Hospital. Your prayers are coveted and appreciated.

God Bless,
Cliff

Let's keep Cliff and His family in our prayers.

In the you got to be kidding catagory.

Zingers.

A flight attendant was stationed at the departure gate to check tickets. As a man approached, she extended her hand for the ticket and he opened his trench coat and flashed her.

Without missing a beat.... she said, "Sir, I need to see your ticket not your stub."

A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store, but she couldn't find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, "Do these turkeys get any bigger?"

The stock boy replied, "No ma'am,they're dead."

The cop got out of his car and the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window. "I've been waiting for you all day," the cop said.

The kid replied, "Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could."

When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket.

A truck driver was driving along on the freeway. A sign comes up that reads, "Low Bridge Ahead." Before he knows it, the bridge is right ahead of him and he gets stuck under the bridge. Cars are backed up for miles.

Finally, a police car comes up. The cop gets out of his car and walks up to the truck driver, puts his hands on his hips and says, "Got stuck, huh?"

The truck driver says, "No, I was delivering this bridge and ran out of gas."

Believe it nor not.

as a certain secret agent would say would you believe that there were at least 2 other(REAL) balloon boys??? Well here is the proof!

Florida retiree is 'original' balloon boy

But while the rest of America wondered how it could happen, Bradenton retiree Bill Crawford was remembering back to his own childhood, and the balloon mishap that happened to him.

Now 82, Crawford grew up on the east side of Cleveland, where back in the 1930's his father would strap him to a 15 foot wide helium balloon as part of an attraction, traveling to air shows across Ohio.

"It had straps coming down from the balloon into something similar to a baby swing," says Crawford, who proudly shows off a scrap book filled with newspaper archives and photographs.

"They claimed I was the youngest balloon pilot in the world."

The balloon would carry the four year old Crawford high into the air, but was tethered to the ground at all times.

"It was quite a thrill for me, and of course the audience, and all the people who were there," says Crawford who admits he rarely talked or thought about his childhood adventures, until last week when the Colorado story showed up on TV.

"He was up 7000 feet if he was in that balloon," Crawford recalls thinking as he watched the live "balloon boy" coverage.

The incident, which investigators now believe was a hoax, sparked memories of Crawford's own close call. In July of 1933 while floating within the old Cleveland Stadium, the tether that kept the four year old from flying away came loose.

"The draft inside the stadium carried me up out over the scoreboard, and then apparently I went outside," says Crawford who doesn't remember much about the incident but believes he never got scared.

"I was thoroughly enjoying it. I had no fear of flying or looking down."

The flight was documented in photographs showing the balloon drifting up and out of the stadium narrowly missing a disastrous Lake Erie landing.

"I would have perished immediately. I don't think we thought about that kind of thing," says Crawford who admits things could have ended up worse.

It is unclear exactly where the balloon came down, but Crawford survived the ordeal.

"Here I am 78 years later to talk about it. Most people don't live that long."

Top of Form 2

'I thought I'd get in trouble'The six-year-old Colorado boy feared to have floated off in a helium balloon appears with his family in front of their home.

His family faces criminal charges over the now infamous runaway balloon saga, but six-year-old Falcon Heene may already have been dealt his punishment - a nickname he might never shake.

But at least one man reckons "Balloon Boy" is trying to steal his "thunder", and his moniker: Dan Nowell, the man originally dubbed Balloon Boy after he was caught up, undesirably, in a hot-air balloon flight in the 1960s.

Mr Nowell was 11 when a hot-air balloon lifted off abruptly in San Francisco and yanked him into the air by its rope, which he had been holding, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

He was carried 900 metres into the air as 200 horrified people watched on, unable to free himself as the rope had tangled around his hand.

It wasn't for at least 10 minutes that balloonist William Berry, sitting in the basket, saw the boy hanging off the balloon from a rope, the paper said.

Mr Berry brought the balloon down in a backyard, and Mr Nowell crashed into a plum tree, but was mostly unhurt, the newspaper said.

Something Isn't Right Here

United State Marine Corps Sgt. Michael Ferschke was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. While there, he met and developed a relationship with a Japanese woman named Hotaru. Sgt. Ferschke was then deployed to Iraq. In July of 2008, the couple were married by proxy over the phone. Sadly, one month later, Sgt. Ferschke was killed.

Prior to their marriage, the couple gave birth to a son. Now, Hotaru and their son face deportation because the State Department refuses to recognize their marriage as legitimate because the couple was not able to consummate their marriage vows as required by US immigration laws.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security has told Sheriff Joe Arpaio that he is to no longer to authorized to make arrests of illegal immigrants. Sheriff Joe, to his credit vows to continue to seek out and arrest criminals that are in this country illegally.

There is something wrong when our state department on the one hand wants to deport the widow and child of one of our fallen soldiers, then on the other wants to strip our law enforcement officials of the power to arrest those who are entering the country illegally. One would think that the Department of Homeland Security would want our law enforcement officials to enforce our laws and protect our borders. I kind of thought that was why the department was created.

Fortunately for Hotaru Ferschke and her son, Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) has introduced a bill that would recognize the marriage of Hotaru and Michael Ferschke. The bill has some support on both sides of the aisle. Members of the House have also introduced legislation to help the widow. Please write to your Senators and Congressman asking them to support Senator Webb's legislation.

I was Visiting Mimi over at Mimi writes, her Dad is in the hospital, let's keep him and her in our prayers.

Friday Flashback

the President has won the Nobel Peace Prize.

The President of the United States, Barack Obama, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

President Obama was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Friday for his work to improve international diplomacy and rid the world of nuclear weapons — a stunning decision to celebrate a figure virtually unknown in the world before he launched his campaign for the White House nearly three years ago.

In honoring Obama, 48, the Norwegian Nobel Committee echoed a global embrace of the U.S. president that has seen his popularity overseas often exceed his support at home. Though Obama’s name surfaced early among contenders, the announcement astonished observers — drawing gasps from the audience in Oslo — in part because Obama assumed office less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 deadline for nominations.

The committee praised Obama for his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" during his nine months in office and singled out for special recognition Obama’s call for a world free of nuclear weapons, the subject of major speech April 5 in Prague.

Heralding Obama as a transformative figure in U.S. and international diplomacy, the committee said: "Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population."

Obama is the third sitting U.S. president — and the first in 90 years — to win the coveted peace prize.
