MY HAMMERED DULCIMER

MY HAMMERED DULCIMER
There are various Hammered Dulcimer postings from YouTube of different tunes, and NO I AM NOT PLAYING ANY OF THESE TUNES.Maybe some day when I have the equipment to do so.I have included a link to my You Tube Channel.I invite you to go and watch any of my videos on the site also check out some of the different channels I subscribe to.

ABOUT THE HAMMERED DULCIMER

The hammered dulcimer is an ancient trapezoidal musical instrument played by striking the strings with wooden hammers.

Originating in the Middle East about 2000 years ago, English soldiers brought the instrument back to England after their failed attempt to conquer Persia during the Crusades about 1000 years ago. Dulcimers have many names in many lands: santur in the Middle East, yang q'in in China, hackbrett in Austria, zither in Germany, and cymbalom in Hungary. The name "dulcimer" is derived from Latin, meaning "sweet sound". Hammered dulcimers were popular in England during the reign of James I, when the Bible was translated into English as the King James Bible. The dulcimer was mentioned in the Book of Daniel 3:5 among other instruments "..the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music..." The dulcimer was later mechanized to become what we now know as the harpsichord which later evolved in the piano.

THE SERENITY PRAYER

THE SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen. - Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)

FOUR MARRIED GUYS (Silly Saturday.)

Four married guys go fishing. After an hour, the following conversation took place:

First guy: You have no idea what I had to do to be able to come out fishing this weekend. I had to promise my wife that I would paint every room in the house next weekend.'

Second guy: That is nothing, I had to promise my wife that I would build her a new deck for the pool.'

Third guy: Man , you both have it easy! I had to promise my wife that I would remodel the kitchen for her.'

They continue to fish. When they realized that the fourth guy had not said a word, they asked him, “You haven't said anything about what you had to do to be able to come fishing this weekend. What's the deal?”

Fourth guy: I just set my alarm for 5:30 am. When it went off, I shut off my alarm, I gave the wife a slap on her butt and said, 'Fishing or Sex?'

And she said, 'Wear sun-block.'

Flashback Friday

Skylab was the United States' first space station, and the second space station visited by a human crew. It was also the only space station NASA launched alone. The 100-ton space station was in Earth's orbit from 1973 to 1979 and it was visited by crews three times in 1973 and 1974.

Some fun

Celestine and I went outside tonight at 8:50pm just to catch a glimpse of the International Space Station(ISS) go truckkin across the sky from the South West to the North East. that was fun to watch.

A Quote

Anger is a killing thing: it kills the man who angers, for each rage leaves him less than he had been before - it takes something from him.
Louis L'Amour

Something that I had done on Monday.

During last weekend I discovered a lump in my upper jawline.Turned out it was caused by a bad tooth. So on Monday I was at Metro Hospital's Dental clinic. The dentist that I saw was a nice man. He was patient and waited out the seizures pulled the tooth, put in a stitch or was it 2 and put me me on anti-biotics.
The Dentist's treatment of me was a pleasant experience. Most of the time I end up with unpleasant people there at Metro. The reason I have to go to metro hospital is that my former regular dentist said that because of the seizures he did not want me as a patient any longer. other dentist copped the same attitude. so now I go the the hospital's dentist office and usually get the residents and their unpleasant attitudes. The guy I say Monday was just finishing up his time at Metro.

Wednesday's hero

Wednesday Hero has never been issued a warning before but I felt it necessary for this one. This post contains graphic descriptions of torture and brutality that some may find it difficult to read.

This weeks Wednesday Hero is dedicated to thousands of men who lost their lives in April of 1942 in what has become known as the Bataan Death March.

On April 9, 1942 Major General Edward P. King, Jr. surrendered 75,000+ men (Filipinos, Chinese Filipinos, and Americans) who had been fighting the Japanese since January of that year when they launched a full scale invasion of The Philippines. They were starving and wracked with disease. Upon their surrender the men were robbed of their possessions and forced into a 61 mile, 5-12 day, march to Camp O'Donnell. Along the way men were brutally beaten, staved of food and water, some had their throats cut, some were beheaded, some died to disease or exposure or untreated wounds and others were simply executed. In all the death tally is unknown but it's estimated that between 6,000 to as many as 20,000 men didn't survive the march.

Maj. Richard Gordon: "I didn't come down with a surrender group. They caught me actually two days after the surrender took place. First thing I did was receive a good beating. And everything I had in my wallet, in my pockets was taken from me. And as I was marched down that road, where they captured me, I passed my battalion commander, Major James Ivy, and he had been tied to a tree and he was stripped to the waist and he was just covered with bayonet holes. He was dead obviously. And he had bled profusely. He had been bayonetted by many, many bayonets. And that's when I knew we had some troubles on our hands. We were in for deep trouble. And they brought us down into a staging area and put me in with the rest of the thousands that were assembled on the side of the road, and that's where I spent my first night."

Here's a great link with more information and interviews with survivors.

The sacrifice and Hell that these men went through will not be forgotten. I don't know about anyone else, but I never learned about this while in school. If you're children aren't being taught this piece of history make sure that you do it for them. These men must be remembered and honored.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

My Dad was a Cleveland Taxi Cab Driver. Hell I even drove a cab for a while when I lived in California. I had the pleasure of driving a cab for Mr. Erol DeBock's City Cab Company in West Sacramento California way back in the late 70's. When I find a picture of my cab I will post it.

A Prayer Request.

On Friday David C. Dolby passed away.He was a Medal Of Honor winner.Let's keeep him and his family in our prayers.
David Charles Dolby (May 14, 1946 – August 6, 2010) was a United States Army soldier who received the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions in the Vietnam War.

Dolby was born on May 14, 1946, in Norristown, Pennsylvania.[1] His father, Charles L. Dolby, was a personnel manager for B.F. Goodrich Company in Oaks, Pennsylvania. He had a younger brother, Daniel.[2]

Dolby joined the Army from Philadelphia and by May 21, 1966, was serving in the Republic of Vietnam as a specialist four with Company B, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). On that day, his platoon came under heavy fire which killed six soldiers and wounded a number of others, including the platoon leader. Throughout the ensuing four-hour battle, Dolby led his platoon in its defense, organized the extraction of the wounded, and directed artillery fire despite close-range attacks from enemy snipers and automatic weapons. He single-handedly attacked the hostile positions and silenced three machine guns, allowing a friendly force to execute a flank attack.[1]

Dolby was subsequently promoted to sergeant and awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the battle.[1] The medal was formally presented to him by President Lyndon B. Johnson on September 28, 1967.[3]

In addition to the 1965–66 tour in which he earned the Medal of Honor, Dolby was deployed four more times to Vietnam. In 1967 he served there with the 101st Airborne Division, in 1969 with the 75th Ranger Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, in 1970 as an advisor to the Vietnamese Rangers, and in 1971 as an advisor to the Royal Cambodian Army.[4]

Dolby married but had no children. After his wife Xuan's death around 1987, he lived quietly in southeastern Pennsylvania. Over the last 20 years, Dolby attended many veterans events around the U.S. and once opened the New York Stock Exchange on Veterans Day. He most recently worked to bring attention to the neglected Medal of Honor Grove at the Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

Dolby died at age 64 on the morning of August 6, 2010, while visiting Spirit Lake, Idaho, for a veterans' gathering. The cause of death has not been announced, and funeral arrangements at Arlington National Cemetery are pending.[5]

Medal Of Honor Citation
Dolby's official citation reads:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty, when his platoon, while advancing tactically, suddenly came under intense fire from the enemy located on a ridge immediately to the front. Six members of the platoon were killed instantly and a number were wounded, including the platoon leader. Sgt. Dolby's every move brought fire from the enemy. However, aware that the platoon leader was critically wounded, and that the platoon was in a precarious situation, Sgt. Dolby moved the wounded men to safety and deployed the remainder of the platoon to engage the enemy. Subsequently, his dying platoon leader ordered Sgt. Dolby to withdraw the forward elements to rejoin the platoon. Despite the continuing intense enemy fire and with utter disregard for his own safety, Sgt. Dolby positioned able-bodied men to cover the withdrawal of the forward elements, assisted the wounded to the new position, and he, alone, attacked enemy positions until his ammunition was expended. Replenishing his ammunition, he returned to the area of most intense action, single-handedly killed 3 enemy machine gunners and neutralized the enemy fire, thus enabling friendly elements on the flank to advance on the enemy redoubt. He defied the enemy fire to personally carry a seriously wounded soldier to safety where he could be treated and, returning to the forward area, he crawled through withering fire to within 50 meters of the enemy bunkers and threw smoke grenades to mark them for air strikes. Although repeatedly under fire at close range from enemy snipers and automatic weapons, Sgt. Dolby directed artillery fire on the enemy and succeeded in silencing several enemy weapons. He remained in his exposed location until his comrades had displaced to more secure positions. His actions of unsurpassed valor during 4 hours of intense combat were a source of inspiration to his entire company, contributed significantly to the success of the overall assault on the enemy position, and were directly responsible for saving the lives of a number of his fellow soldiers. Sgt. Dolby's heroism was in the highest tradition of the U.S. Army.[1]

A computer tip.

I found this tip on Technician's site. Here is the tip as well.simple-ways-to-speed-up-your-pc/
I(Technician) often get asked about how to speed up a PC.

So I’ve put together some simple tasks that just about anyone can do.

Note: these tips relate to Windows XP, but many can also be applied to Vista and W7.

    * Remove virus / spyware. This is often the biggest cause of a PC slowing down… and often you might not realise that you are infected). If you currently have an antivirus/antispyware program, then you can try some additional programs like SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes, since they don’t interfere with existing security suites. As a last resort, you can remove your existing security suite, and install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Just remember: before you scan: make sure your security software has actually updated its virus definitions over the internet. Double check that the date of the definitions is no more than 3 days old. I have seen some infections block security updates, yet fool the Security suite into thinking that everything is OK!
    * Remove unneeded software. Go to Control panel, and start “Add or remove programs” (in Vista and W7 its called “Program and Features”… one of the most annoying changes that Microsoft have made to the new Windows). Now look through the programs listed, and CAREFULLY remove the ones that you are sure you don’t need any more. A good example of programs that can slow down your PC are: itunes, limeware, skype
    * An advanced technique: remove KB folders and KB log files from the Windows folder (these are normally hidden, but from Windows explorer, go tools -> folder options -> view -> and make sure no files are hidden… you can change these settings back later. Now you can remove any log file that starts with “KB”, and any folder that starts with “$NtUninstallKB”
    * remove temp files. These files are often hidden, so using something like CCleaner or EmpTemp2, is very useful. Otherwise you can do it manually by removing anything below c:\windows\temp and c:\documents and settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp . Note: Some files will be “undeletable”… this is normal, just skip the undeletable files.
    * clear ie cache & remove toolbars. If you are using Internet Explorer, then tools -> internet options -> browsing history -> delete… you can also make sure you tick “delete browsing history on exit”
    * Run a disk defrag (If you don’t quite know how to do it, you can also try downloading and installing a more advanced defragmenting program like My Defrag)
    * Another advanced technique: disable some unnecessary services. control panel -> Administrative tools -> Services. Safe ones to disable are: Error reporting service, fast user switching, remote registry, secondary logon, ssdp discovery service, webclient.
    * You can also add more RAM (just be aware that this will not work if your system already has sufficient RAM)
    * Hire a competent technician to tune your PC.
    * If all the above fails, and as an absolute last resort, you can always wipe your computer and re-install Windows from scratch (or try linux)… if your PC is more than about 4 years old, then you should start to consider buying  new PC!
there are times when I run across things that I will post here from time to time.

A different Awww...Monday.

So I'm being a little off the wall(no wise cracks from the peanut gallery)

A thought.

I saw this posting over at Jennifer's site Dust Bunny Hostage. I posted a rather rambling comment that I will post here as well: Well, if a person is using a blog as a love letter to just one person, Oh well that's on them. I write my blogs (so many of them) for every one to see except for one blog it is by invitation only. When I first starting blogging I enjoyed meeting new people, I still do. I still share my heart with everyone for the most part. (the private blog thing again) I enjoy visiting with a lot of people that is why I joined First Bloggers Club and Entrecard. I try not to be judgmental and accept all people no matter where their head is at (Gay Vs Strait).

Most of all I really do enjoy life and All IT'S PITFALLS I should have added this as well as people who molest children, and rapists are not acceptable actions to me. Yes that includes PRIESTS, they belong in jail.

I will have Aww...Monday up a little later today.

Standing on his own legs, Lt. Dan Cnossen used to be about 5 feet, 9 inches tall. Now on his two mechanical legs, he is roughly the same height.

Somehow, though, he seems to stand taller.

That isn't what the Topeka man would say. But while this is his story, it is often his mother's telling, and she can't believe how far he has come. His latest feat came late last month when he walked a six-mile race on his prosthetic legs.

You can read the rest of Lt. Cnossen's story here.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

So If you see me around fine if not well I'm trying to de-clutter a little (little being the operative word here) section of my space.

Prayers for Mitch Millers Family.Rest in Peace

Mitchell William "Mitch" Miller (July 4, 1911 – July 31, 2010)[1][2] was an American musician, singer, conductor, record producer, A&R man and record company executive. One of the most influential figures in American popular music during the 1950s and early 1960s, both as the head of Artists & Repertoire at Columbia Records and as a best-selling recording artist, he is sometimes thought of as the creator of what would become karaoke with his NBC-TV series, Sing Along with Mitch. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester in the early 1930s, Miller began his musical career as an accomplished player of the oboe and English horn, and recorded several highly regarded classical albums featuring his instrumental work. But he is best remembered as a conductor, choral director, television performer and recording executive.

The Blogger's Prayer

Lord help me to learn to spell without spellcheck, manage to visit all that visit me, and post regularly - all in 5 minutes a day, so that I can clean house and take care of my family. Help me to not look at every occurrence in my life as a blog post, and to quit taking pictures of weird things to share as well. Please Lord, help me to stop talking about my blog friends as though they are next door neighbors or someone I have known all of my life. And help me dear Lord, to think of something witty and wise to post tomorrow.
